Premier League 2022-23 – Leicester City vs Man Utd Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The midweek action in the Premier League concludes on Thursday evening when two sides with a lot of scrutiny on them meet at the King Power Stadium as Leicester City welcome Manchester United in the final game of the round.

Both these teams have made headlines for the wrong reasons already this season but United are shown signs of turning things around. That will be the aim for the home side in this one as they search for a win to kick their campaign into life.

Where to watch

The match will be shown live and in full on BT Sport 1 in the UK. The build-up at the King Power begins at 7pm with the kick off coming along at 8pm.

Leicester City

I think some expected a slow start to the season for Leicester City given that they didn’t sign an outfield player in the summer but at the same time I would imagine those same people would have expected a few to come through the door so that the Foxes exited the window stronger than they went into it. There are still a few hours of the window left but there is no hiding the fact that Leicester look considerably weaker than at the start which is a concern.

Another concern would be their form, especially defensively, and the loss of Wesley Fofana probably isn’t going to help with that. Things could have been different for Leicester had they held onto a 2-0 lead at home to Brentford in their opening match but they didn’t and have subsequently lost their last three matches, admittedly two of them were away to Arsenal and Chelsea, and are currently bottom of the table and bang under pressure.

Manchester United

The Red Devils were in a similar situation to Leicester City at the start of the season. It was pretty clear that their transfer strategy hadn’t gone to plan and it was obvious that they were going to strengthen throughout August and prior to deadline day but they were perhaps more fortunate than Leicester in that their 4-0 drubbing at Brentford saw them hit rock bottom and sped up the process. Slowly but surely more players are arriving and their results are improving as a result of that.

Manchester United have won their two matches since that embarrassing evening in London and will be looking for a third victory here. I’m still not convinced they have been that good in those two wins because Liverpool were truly awful and Southampton had chances to get something from the game. The one good thing is United do look like scoring goals now and it has been a while since they looked exciting going forward.

Team News

Leicester City are hoping to have James Maddison back available for this match after he missed the loss to Chelsea on Saturday. If he returns he is likely to be the only change for a Foxes side that aren’t really in the position to rotate.

Manchester United are going to be without Antony and Anthony Martial for this match. The former wasn’t signed in time to feature while the latter is out with an Achilles problem. Victor Lindelof has only just returned to training so isn’t likely to be risked.

Betting

I don’t think I am stretching the boundaries to expect to see goals in this match. Both teams have already conceded four in a match this season and haven’t really been that tight either side of that. Leicester couldn’t contain a 10-man Chelsea at the weekend so they might have problems keeping this United attack in check but while Man Utd kept a clean sheet at the weekend I wouldn’t say they are much more convincing at the back.

This is a fixture when tends to have plenty of goals in it. The last three at the King Power between these two have finished 2-2, 3-1 and 4-2 and you would suggest both were probably more defensively sound a year or two ago compared to where they are now. That all makes me think that the 2.75 goal line for this match is a little on the low side. Another area where both teams can exploit are set plays so there should be no shortage of scoring opportunities for both sides here.
