Premier League 2022-23 – Saturday 4th February Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The Premier League weekend continues on Saturday when another seven matches takes place on a day where we will get used to the new look squads in operation in the division on what could be another big day of top flight football.

This is a usual Saturday for us in the UK in terms of the fact that the day begins and then ends with a TV match. There are five other games in the traditional 3pm slot and they will get updates in all the regular places.

Early Kick Off

The action gets underway at Goodison Park where a new era begins as Sean Dyche takes charge of Everton for the first time after the sacking of Frank Lampard a couple of weeks ago. He has a tough assignment to begin life at the Toffees though as the league leaders Arsenal are the visitors to Merseyside. Arsenal will be looking to open up and eight point gap at the top once again ahead of Manchester City playing on Sunday and the two sides meeting in 10 days. Everton are in deep trouble but a win would move them out of the relegation zone.

3pm Matches

There are five matches in the traditional 3pm slot on Saturday afternoon and the highest placed side on show is Carabao Cup finalists Manchester United. They have a home date with Crystal Palace knowing that victory will move them up to third in the table for a few hours at least. If the Eagles pull off a shock at Old Trafford they will close in on a place in the top half. Liverpool are the other big team playing at 3pm. They face a trip to Molineux to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers who will be looking for a win which would pull them away from the danger zone.

Three other matches take place in this traditional slot and they will all impact events in the lower half of the table. Southampton are at the bottom of the table heading into the weekend. They will look to come off the foot of the table when they travel to the capital to take on Brentford, while Bournemouth, who begin the weekend third from bottom, make the trip to the Amex Stadium to take on Brighton and Hove Albion. The other match sees two midlands clubs going at it when Aston Villa welcome Leicester City to Villa Park.

Late Game

The Saturday action concludes with a match which has the race for the Champions League and the battle to avoid the drop in the spotlight when Newcastle United look to continue the feel good factor around St James’ Park when they welcome a West Ham United outfit who are slowly showing signs of an upturn in their form after an indifferent start to the season. Newcastle know a win will keep the chasing pack for a top four finish at bay while West Ham could move four points clear of the drop with a win.

Betting

I’m treading a little carefully this weekend until we have had a chance to assess the impact that all the January ins and outs have had on these teams but one bet I like the look of is Brentford to beat Southampton. Southampton have brought players in towards the end of January but they had to strengthen because they were very ordinary in the first half of the season. They go into this one off the back of a disappointment of going out of the Carabao Cup in midweek too.

Brentford will be nice and fresh heading into this one because they haven’t played for a couple of weeks so any knocks will have had chance to heal and they should be spot on for this one. The Bees are undefeated in eight and only the leaders Arsenal have left this part of London with three points this season. In contrast, Southampton have won one of their last nine matches in the league and that was only at a terrible Everton. The score suggested Saints were competitive at Newcastle in midweek but in reality they weren’t and I don’t expect them to have much more joy here.

Tips

Back Brentford to beat Southampton for a 3/10 stake at 1.83 with Betfred
