Premier League 2022-23 – Saturday 8th October Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

Another weekend in the Premier League kicks off on Saturday when five matches take place in the top flight on a day where we might well see the title picture taking a little more shape as well as events towards the bottom of the table.

Unlike a usual Saturday, we only have one TV to enjoy this time around as the lunchtime game has been moved to Sunday. The usual places will keep us updated on the four matches that kick off at the traditional time.

Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (3pm unless stated, UK TV in brackets)

AFC Bournemouth v Leicester City

Chelsea v Wolverhampton Wanderers

Manchester City v Southampton

Newcastle United v Brentford

Brighton & Hove Albion v Tottenham Hotspur (5.30pm – Sky Main Event & Sky Premier League)

Preview

We have to wait until the final match of the day for the televised game to come around but when it does it will see two teams who begin the day in the top four of the table meeting at the Amex Stadium where Brighton and Hove Albion host a Tottenham Hotspur whose boss Antonio Conte is picking up a little flak for not being the most entertaining. Brighton certainly are entertaining so that presents a nice blend. Earlier in the day, Manchester City will look to move to the top of the table when they welcome Southampton to the Etihad Stadium.

Chelsea are the next highest team in action. They will be looking to extend their undefeated start under Graham Potter when they welcome a Wolverhampton Wanderers side who begin life without Bruno Lage in this encounter. Leicester City won their first game of the season last week and they will be looking to back that up when they head to the coast to take on AFC Bournemouth while the other match sees Newcastle United taking on Brentford at St James’ Park.

Betting

Much has been made of the lack of wins that Newcastle United have achieved this season but when you delve a little deeper into the numbers there can be no complaints about their performances. They are creating an insane number of opportunities at the minute as evidenced by their recent xG totals which in their last six games read: 2.30, 2.10, 0.62, 4.17, 1.76 and 3.62. The problem is they are not turning all those chances into goals but those things tend to even themselves out and the emphatic win of last week might have given all their attacking players a boost of confidence.

Brentford remain competitive at the top level which in itself is a decent effort when you look at how Sheffield United and Leeds have struggled with their second season in the division in the last two campaigns. For all Brentford are competitive they are yet to win on their travels this season despite facing two newly promoted sides as well as struggling Leicester and Crystal Palace. In fact, the Bees’ only wins have come against a Manchester United who were rancid on the night and a Leeds United who shot themselves in the foot. This looks like a good chance for a home win here.
