Premier League 2022-23 – Sunday 23rd October Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The Premier League weekend continues on Sunday afternoon when half of the division are in action on what could be another important day of football at both ends of the table as we meander towards the break for the World Cup.

Five matches take place in total over the course of the afternoon. Two of them will be live on the TV for us to enjoy and I would imagine there will be regular updates throughout the coverage of the other three games.

Sunday’s fixtures are as follows: (2pm unless stated – UK TV in brackets)

Aston Villa v Brentford

Leeds United v Fulham

Southampton v Arsenal (Sky Main Event & Sky Premier League)

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Leicester City

Tottenham Hotspur v Newcastle United (4.30pm – Sky Main Event & Sky Premier League)

Preview

The televised action begins with the leaders Arsenal on show. They will be looking to regain their four point lead at the top when they make the trip to take on a Southampton side who will be aiming to build on their win in midweek and climb up the table. When they are done the attention will return to the capital as Tottenham Hotspur will look to bounce back from that indifferent performance at Old Trafford when they host a Newcastle United who will end the day inside the top four should they win the game.

Elsewhere it is a big day towards the foot of the table. Two of the bottom three meet in what feels like a huge clash at Molineux when Wolverhampton Wanderers host a Leicester City side who despite their win in midweek dropped back to the bottom on Saturday. Leeds United and Aston Villa are hovering dangerously close to the drop zone and will look to pick up three valuable points when they host Fulham and Brentford respectively.

Betting

I mentioned in midweek that in eight of their opening 10 matches this season Fulham had conceded two or more goals. They actually kept a clean sheet against Aston Villa on that occasion but that isn’t really much of a form guide. They now go to Leeds United for a match where goals look like they are going to flow and potentially do so at both ends. Leeds are at home in this one and they will look to take the game to Fulham. They would have done anyway but they really need to win here.

Only one of the 11 matches that Fulham have played in the Premier League this season have had under three goals. Leeds matches have been a little lower scoring in recent times because they have struggled to find the back of the net but I expect them to be even more aggressive and strive to win the ball higher up the pitch in this match which should lead to a number of chances being created. As long as the attacking units are clinical enough this looks a prime candidate to have more than three goals.
