The Premier League weekend continues with a couple of matches on Sunday which will have big implications on the title race and the battle to secure the spots in the Champions League for next season.
As with most Sundays in the Premier League, both of the matches will be live on the TV for us in the UK to enjoy although the two matches are later in the day than we would normally expect with the early afternoon clear for the conclusion of League 1.
Newcastle United vs Arsenal (16.30 – Sky Main Event & Sky Premier League)
The big match of the day comes from St James’ Park where third hosts second when Newcastle United will look to consolidate their top four position when they take on an Arsenal who simply have to win to keep their slender title hopes alive.
Newcastle have caught fire in recent weeks and head into this encounter off the back of eight wins in their last nine matches. Only Liverpool have left this part of the world with all three points this season so the size of the Arsenal task is a pretty significant one. They got back on track after a poor run of results when they beat Chelsea on Tuesday night and now they will need to show their very best if they are to head back to the top of the table and put any semblance of pressure back on Manchester City. This isn’t must win for Newcastle but they will leave the door open for Liverpool in the race to the top four if they don’t win so I’m expecting this one to be a little crazy with the first goal having a bigger impact on the match than it might normally have. Arsenal are struggling defensively and might be without Gabriel as well while Newcastle are flying offensively. Arsenal will have to go at Newcastle so this one feels like a high scoring game to me. I’ll play over 3 goals here.

West Ham United vs Manchester United (19.00 – BT Sport 1)
The second match on Sunday comes along in the evening when West Ham United will look to ease their relegation concerns when they take on Manchester United who suddenly need to look over their shoulder in the race for the top four.
West Ham go into this match off the back of three successive defeats but two of them have been to Manchester City and Liverpool who aren’t losing many games at all at the minute. Manchester United rarely impress on their travels with just seven wins from 17 away outings but their struggles have come against top half teams whereas against the weaker or lower sides they have generally got the job done. The schedule hasn’t been particularly kind to United though given that they were last in action on Thursday evening and they are in the middle of a very hectic schedule so something is going to have to give eventually. The defensive absentees United have is a concern here too against a West Ham outfit that can be quite physical. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if West Ham get something from this match but I wouldn’t want to rely on it so I’ll leave this one alone.
