Premier League 2022-23 – West Ham vs Bournemouth Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The latest Premier League weekend concludes with a Monday Night Football this week, which this time sends us to the London Stadium as West Ham United and AFC Bournemouth do battle for three points.

After the weekend matches so far, these two sit in the bottom eight of the Premier League table, however this is a chance to put some distance between themselves and the bottom three and move up the table.

Where to watch

The match will be shown live and in full on the Monday Night Football programme which begins at 7pm on the Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League channels. Kick off is at 8pm.

West Ham United

When you consider the campaigns the Hammers have had for the last two seasons, it is surprising to see them so low in the table. The fact of the matter is that due to the short turnaround between this season and the last one, a number of teams have come slowly out of the blocks, especially those looking to integrate new signings. Add in European football and it exacerbates everything.

There were shoots of life recently when West Ham put a run of wins together but they have failed to win either of their last two matches and will now be eager to get a win here. The positive is that they have won their last four at home in all competitions so they are making the London Stadium if not a fortress, then a very difficult place for opposing teams to go.

AFC Bournemouth

Most judges had AFC Bournemouth down to struggle on their return to the Premier League but that hasn’t been the way it has played out so far, despite the negative words of Scott Parker which eventually got him the sack. Since he left, Bournemouth have been much more competitive under Gary O’Neill, and will be looking for another three points here which will confirm their solid start to the season.

Bournemouth saw a six match unbeaten run come to an end in their last game when they went down to local rivals Southampton so they will keen to begin another one here. The Cherries are unbeaten in their last three matches away from home which will give them some confidence heading to the capital. They will look to improve on 10 goals in 11 matches though.

Team News

West Ham United are hoping that Craig Dawson and Maxwel Cornet will be available to feature in this match but the game is expected to come too soon for summer signing Lucas Paqueta.

Bournemouth have reported no new injury problems ahead of this match. Lloyd Kelly remains on the sidelines with his ongoing injury while David Brooks’ return is a few weeks away.

Betting

These are two teams who don’t get involved in too many matches that have more than 2.5 goals in them and I’m not sure this one will add to the totals. Just two of the 11 West Ham matches in the Premier League have had more than 2.5 goals in them and one of those was against Fulham who can’t stop conceding goals so I’m not sure that is a negative on the under 2.5 goals.

If we ignore the Bournemouth matches against Arsenal, Man City and Liverpool where they would be expected to be under pressure defensively, five of the other eight Bournemouth matches have been under 2.5 goals. The three that haven’t came against three weak defences in Nottingham Forest, Leicester City and Fulham. As a general rule Bournemouth struggle to create chances with their overall xG sitting at 0.74 per game. They only have 10 goals in 11 games and might see a point as a good result here. I like under 2.5 goals in this one.
