Premier League 2025-26 – Wednesday 7th January Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

It is a big night of action in the Premier League on Wednesday when all but four teams in the division are in action on an evening where the chasing pack will look to make ground at the top and those battling to beat the drop are on show too.

The beauty of Wednesday is that all eight matches are live on TV for us to watch but they all overlap so it probably won’t be possible to watch them all at the same time but there is access to follow any bets that you have.

Wednesday’s fixtures are as follows: (7.30pm unless stated; UK TV in brackets)

AFC Bournemouth vs Tottenham Hotspur (Sky Sports Golf)

Brentford vs Sunderland (Sky Sports Tennis)

Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa (Sky Sports+)

Everton vs Wolverhampton Wanderers (Sky Sports F1)

Fulham vs Chelsea (Sky Sports Football)

Manchester City vs Brighton and Hove Albion (Sky Sports Main Event)

Burnley vs Manchester United (8.15pm – Sky Sports Premier League)

Newcastle United vs Leeds United (8.15pm – Sky Sports Cricket)

Big Matches

With the leaders Arsenal not in action until Thursday night it is a chance for the teams in second and third in the table to make a bit of a move and close to within three points of the Gunners. Manchester City are the closest challengers and they will go in search of three points when they host Brighton and Hove Albion while Aston Villa, the team in third at the start of the night, have a trip to the capital to negotiate when they take on a Crystal Palace side who will be hoping that this is the night they get their season back on track. There is a West London derby too as fifth placed Chelsea make the short trip to Craven Cottage to take on Fulham.

Best of the Rest

At the other end of the table, the bottom two are also in action and in a major need for points. Wolverhampton Wanderers will be looking to back up their first win of the season at the weekend when they head to the Hill Dickinson Stadium to face an Everton side who are lacking consistency, while Burnley will play host to Manchester United who will be led by Darren Fletcher after the sacking of Ruben Amorim at the beginning of the week. That leaves three other matches where AFC Bournemouth will host Tottenham Hotspur, Brentford welcome Sunderland to the Gtech Community Stadium for the first time in the Premier League and Newcastle United host a Leeds United side who have found some form in recent times.

Betting

I’ll go with three bets over the course of the night with the first of those coming in a much improved Wolverhampton Wanderers side who I think can take advantage of the Everton absentees to ensure that they come away from the Hill Dickinson Stadium with at least a point. There is no doubt that Wolves are on the up under Rob Edwards in terms of performances even if their results are only just starting to show that. Away from home under him they only went down by a single goal at Aston Villa, Arsenal and Liverpool and got a deserved point at Old Trafford so they are a lot harder to beat and I’m not convinced Everton have the firepower to beat them. They are without their best attacking option in Iliman Ndiaye and the Toffees have lost three out of five matches and failed to beat Burnley since he left for AFCON. That leaves Thierno Barry and Beto as the attacking options and they aren’t going to scare anyone. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is said to be a doubt too so all of a sudden Wolves have a chance of successive wins. Everton can be hard to break down so this could quickly turn into a grind but Wolves have beaten Everton in the Carabao Cup this term and only went down 3-2 in the reverse fixture. I like them to come away from Merseyside with at least a point here.

There will be plenty of attention on Manchester City after their last-gasp two points dropped at the weekend and they go up against a Brighton and Hove Albion side who are undefeated in three against the former champions. I’m going to combine two selections in a bet builder for this one and that is over 2.5 goals, which has landed in 12 of the last 14 meetings between these two, and over 2.5 cards, which I think is a good play. The reason why I like both lines is because City are having to rejig their back line because of injuries to the likes of Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias so players who haven’t had a lot of minutes are coming in to face a dynamic attack. Brighton’s attackers are good at attracting fouls and therefore bookings and I’d expect an aggressive Man City after what happened against Chelsea. Thomas Bramall has dished out over 2.5 cards in five of his last seven matches so both of these lines look good to be covered here.

The other bet that I like is for Joshua Zirkzee to have over 2.5 shot when Manchester United head to Burnley. We would need him to start for the bet to be a goer but if he does then he had seven shots in the reverse fixture and now that Ruben Amorim is out of the equation, the Dutchman might be eager to prove he still has a future at Old Trafford under whoever takes Manchester United forward in the longer term. United are still without Bryan Mbuemo and Amad Diallo who are away at AFCON and Mason Mount is a doubt. I can’t believe Darren Fletcher will persevere with Patrick Dorgu behind the striker which Amorim went with at Leeds on Sunday so I expect Zirkzee to play a prominent role here, if for no other reason than this is United’s fourth match in 12 days. Zirkzee hasn’t started any of those matches so he should be nice and fresh and can cash in against a Burnley side who look beaten to me. Zirkzee had seven shots in the reverse meeting between these two despite coming off the bench after half an hour. In the four games he has started this term, the only time he has played 90 minutes he had three shots against Everton and one at Crystal Palace who were going well at the time. Burnley aren’t so I expect Zirkzee to fill his boots here.
