Premier League Darts 2023 – Night 11 Tips and Betting Preview

We are approaching the three-quarter stage of the Premier League Darts season with the eight players heading to Brighton on Thursday evening for night 11 of the regular part of the campaign, as the chase for points continues.

As ever, points are up for grabs towards the overall table as well as a nice £10,000 for winning on the evening so that should guarantee we get some decent action despite the table having taken shape to the detriment of some.

Dimitri Van den Bergh vs Michael van Gerwen

The opening quarter final of the night is a match which we will be seeing for the third time in the Premier League as Dimitri Van den Bergh takes on the runaway leader in the overall table in Michael van Gerwen.

This is a huge match for the Belgian who has fallen a fair way off the pace over the last few weeks but he could be forgiven for not looking forward to the contest. The reason for that is his record against van Gerwen is absolutely terrible. He has lost their last 10 matches, five of which have been this year, and you sense whenever the two meet that the belief van den Bergh can win has gone. He’ll catch MVG on the right night eventually and I guess if it is going to happen it might be here where van Gerwen is blazing a trail at the top of the table and can limp to the o2 from here on in. This is an obvious match to leave alone.

Chris Dobey vs Gerwyn Price

Gerwyn Price has emerged as the main challenger to Michael van Gerwen at the top of the table and if he is going to keep closing in on the Dutchman then he’ll be looking to beat Chris Dobey in the second match of the evening.

Dobey is still very much still in the overall semi-final hunt as we approach the final quarter of the campaign but he probably can’t afford to lose too many quarter finals as if results go against him he could find himself cut adrift. Price is going to be at the o2 barring a complete collapse but he had his wings clipped in the European Tour event over the weekend. It will be interesting to see the reaction to that but I still expect the Welsh star to win but as ever in this tournament getting involved and risking having to take the crowd on isn’t really my cup of tea.

Peter Wright vs Nathan Aspinall

The third quarter final of the evening looks a huge one for Nathan Aspinall, who heads to Sussex occupying the last spot outside the top four. He faces Peter Wright in his opener for the evening and will be expected to beat a man who only has three match wins in 10 weeks in the Premier League this season.

Wright looked like he might be finding some form for a late charge in the Premier League last week but then suffered a real momentum killing result in the European Tour over the weekend and you have to wonder what he has left here. He really needs to find three night wins from the last six and even that might not be enough. Aspinall arrives here off the back of a run to the final of that European Tour event at the weekend and that should have tuned him up nicely for a big conclusion to his Premier League regular season. I guess Wright might feel like the competitive pressure has been released and he can give this a good go but I just can’t back a guy who lost 6-1 to an unknown in Germany over the weekend. Aspinall might make hard work of this like he often does but he won their previous Premier League meeting 6-3 and the 10/11 on him repeating that success looks good to me.

Jonny Clayton vs Michael Smith

The last of the quarter finals on the evening looks like the pick of the matches in the first stage of the night as the man who has landed the last two Premier League nights in Jonny Clayton, faces the world champion Michael Smith who came out on top in the European Tour at the weekend.

Clayton beat Smith in the final of the first of those two Premier League evening wins but Smith won their two battles prior to that. Clayton was slow out of the blocks in this tournament this term though so I’m not sure how much we can read into that form. The one thing we do know is we have two confident performers on show here and whoever comes out on top in this match will be a massive favourite to make the final. Clayton has powered up to third in the table over the last two weeks while Smith is fourth so there is plenty at stake in the overall picture here. My gut feeling is Clayton will win this but it isn’t a strong enough one to act upon.
