Premier League – Liverpool vs Stoke City Betting Preview

There is one match in the Premier League on Tuesday evening and it sees Liverpool looking to close Chelsea’s lead at the top of the table back down to six points when they entertain Stoke at Anfield.

Stoke will move back into the top half of the table if they can find the win here while Liverpool will go up to second. Mark Hughes has made Stoke tough to beat in recent times so there is a certain level of intrigue to this one.

Liverpool

The Reds go into this match still unbeaten at Anfield this season and in seven matches they have only dropped four points with emphatic wins over Watford and Hull along the way not to mention thrashing the champions Leicester at Anfield too.

Liverpool have scored plenty of goals at home this season but they have only kept two clean sheets which will be a big concern and now the pressure is on them to deliver and keep up the heat on Chelsea at the top. Jurgen Klopp has got this side playing some wonderful attacking football and they have the platform to display that here.

Stoke

After a disaster of a start to the season where they were winless in seven matches Stoke have recovered nicely to only lose two of their next 10 games and they have climbed the table accordingly. They have to be given credit for sticking with Mark Hughes and he has turned things around and Stoke can look up rather than down now.

Stoke have kept three clean sheets in their last five matches but they might have a point to prove after surrendering a two goal lead against Leicester last time out. Had complacency not set in for that match it may well have been four clean sheets in five and that would highlight the significant improvement they have made.

Team News

Liverpool are likely to be without Joel Matip again while Philippe Coutinho hasn’t quite recovered from injury in time to take part in the match.

Stoke will be without the suspended Marko Arnautovic but Ibrahim Afellay has recovered from an injury and he could be involved in some way for the first time this season.

Betting

The consensus is when Liverpool are involved matches will automatically be high scoring but I’m not convinced this one necessarily will be. Stoke have really tightened up in recent times but without Arnautovic I’m not convinced they will offer too much going forward.

I’m not normally an unders backer but with the line as high as three here I can see a little mileage on the under. We’re in a busy period so for Liverpool it will be just about winning and preserving energy while given their record at Anfield I’m sure if you offered Stoke a point they would gladly grab it right now. A small bet on under 3 goals is the way forward here.
