Premier League – Monday 2nd January Matches Betting Preview

Another fixture list in the Premier League begins on Bank Holiday Monday and there are six games in the set of matches on show. They take place over the usual three Saturday kick off times so there is lots to enjoy as the festive period draws to a close.

Three of Chelsea’s closest pursuers get the opportunity to move three points closer to the leaders as the London side don’t play until Wednesday. A couple of sides at the bottom get the chance to improve their positions in their 2017 openers too.

Early Game

The action begins up at the Riverside on Monday when Middlesbrough host the champions Leicester. Claudio Ranieri’s side need the points drastically but Boro will see this as a match they can win so a competitive opener is in store for us.

3pm Matches

Man City will be one of the sides looking to take advantage of Chelsea’s absence when they host Burnley at the Etihad. West Brom host Hull in what looks an important match for the visitors while Everton welcome Southampton to Goodison and Liverpool head to the Stadium of Light to take on a struggling Sunderland side.

Late Game

It all concludes back at the Olympic Stadium as West Ham host a suddenly resurgent Man Utd side. Both teams need the points for different reasons so there shouldn’t be a lack of fight and competitiveness in the finale for the day.

Betting

This is a set of fixtures which not many bets jump out at me in. I’m not one for taking big handicaps when there is a second set of matches in such a short space of time. For the likes of Man City and Liverpool it is all about winning rather than running up big scores so I’ll definitely leave them alone. In the end there is just one for me.

Everton go into their match with Southampton off the back of a couple of good results on the road over Christmas and they will look to build on that now they are back at home. Southampton’s season looks to be unravelling. They have lost back to back home games over Christmas and finished with 10 men on both occasions so all doesn’t look right there.

Everton don’t always convince me at home but only Liverpool have won at Goodison this season so I expect the Toffees to come up with the result here especially with Southampton being without arguably their best player in the suspended Virgil van Dijk.

Tips

WON – Back Everton (-0.25AH) to beat Southampton for a 4/10 stake at 1.96 with 188bet
