Premier League – Swansea City vs Chelsea Betting Preview

There is just the one Premier League game on Super Sunday this week and it comes from the Liberty Stadium as Swansea City host Chelsea who will be looking for a win to keep pace with Manchester City at the top of the table.

A number of sides laid down their gauntlets on Saturday including Man City, Tottenham and Liverpool and all eyes will be on Antonio Conte’s men to see what they can deliver in return here but Swansea shouldn’t be forgotten.

Swansea City

After an opening day win at Burnley, Swansea have disappointed in their last two matches with defeats to Hull and Leicester and in truth they were well beaten at Leicester too. Since Garry Monk left Swansea have always had a Jekyll and Hyde look to them. They are either excellent or ordinary with very little in between.

Since coming into the Premier League, Swansea have had a defensive platform to build from but the loss of Ashley Williams could change all that and with some tough fixtures to come after this if they fail to get anything out of this one the pressure could really mount on them so this is a huge day for the home side.

Chelsea

It has been three wins from three for Antonio Conte in the early days in his reign and although it hasn’t always been convincing nobody can complain at the overall record. Narrow wins over West Ham and Watford opened up the season but the Blues were more dominant against Burnley last time out.

Chelsea go into the match in second place in the table after Saturday’s matches and they already have the chance to put a little distance between themselves and Man City and the rest. It would also make Conte just the fourth Chelsea manager to win his first four matches.

Team News

Alfie Mawson has joined Swansea from Barnsley and he is in the squad and could make a debut in this match. Borja Baston became Swansea’s record signing in the summer and he could feature for the first time while the Welsh side also have Neil Taylor back too.

Deadline Day signings David Luiz and Marcos Alonso are available but are unlikely to start according to the Chelsea boss. Kurt Zouma still isn’t around which means John Terry and Gary Cahill are again the men likely to be protected by N’Golo Kante.

Betting

I’m not normally one for taking away sides at odds on in England (or Wales in this case!) but I’m prepared to make an exception here because Chelsea are a horrible match up for Swansea. They have the tricky players that Swansea hate to deal with and they are very tight in the middle areas where Swansea are most creative.

Of course the troubles Chelsea usually give Swansea’s defence should only be further exaggerated here with the loss of Ashley Williams and I must admit I fear for Swansea both in this match and the season so I’m on the visitors to win here and win it well. We can get a -1 on the Asian lines so we’re guaranteed a refund for a Chelsea win but a good win sees us win nicely at a tidy price.
