Presidents Cup Golf 2022 – Day 3 Foursomes Tips and Betting Preview

It is what you could call Moving Day at the Presidents Cup on Saturday as two sessions of action take place over the course of the day with the foursomes in the morning ahead of the last set of fourballs in the afternoon.

As ever with a Presidents Cup or Ryder Cup we will preview the morning session but the short turnaround between the two sets of play will mean we are unable to get stuck into the afternoon matches.

Jordan Spieth & Justin Thomas vs Corey Conners & Sungjae Im

Match tees off at 12.12 BST

The opening match of the day is a repeat of one of the foursomes matches on Thursday as the unbeaten American pairing of Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas go in search of a third win of the week when they go up against Corey Conners and Sungjae Im.

The American duo won their meeting on Thursday 2&1 although there were periods on the back nine where the International pair had chances to close the gap but couldn’t quite make that clutch putt which they needed to get right back into the contest. Conners and Im have both been out again in the fourballs with the former losing on the final hole and the latter getting a half point but if they are going to get anything out of this match they will need to putt better than they did on Thursday. They were over par for the 17 holes they played and that isn’t getting anything done. I expect Spieth and Thomas to win this but we are getting to the stage where each point strengthens the claims of Thomas in the overall scorer bet so I’m happy to let that ride.

Collin Morikawa & Cameron Young vs Adam Scott & Hideki Matsuyama

Match tees off at 12.24 BST

The second match of the afternoon sees two pairs who went out together in the opening foursomes on Thursday but not against each other meeting when Collin Morikawa is back alongside Cameron Young this time to take on Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama.

Morikawa and Young were the perfect combination, as we expected them to be. Young excelled off the tee and on the greens and Morikawa went flag hunting with the irons in his hand and as such they were able to shoot four under for the 17 holes that they played. You would have thought Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama would be a good pairing but it didn’t work out that way. They were walloped by Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele on Thursday 6&5 and were two over for those 13 holes. Both men are struggling with their game this week. Even with their own ball on Friday neither were much of a factor and you sense this is a partnership that is doomed to fail. I don’t see the American pair failing though and I think they are a good bet at the prices in this one.

Scottie Scheffler & Sam Burns vs Tom Kim & K-H Lee

Match tees off at 12.36 BST

The penultimate match of the first session on Saturday sees the only American pairing yet to win a full point for their team going back out to battle when Scottir Scheffler and Sam Burns take on the Korean pairing of Tom Kim and K-H Lee.

Scheffler and Burns were the only American pair beaten in the opening foursomes and then they could only manage a half in the fourballs on Friday so they will be eager to get a full point on the board. They played the 18 holes on Thursday in level par and collapsed down the closing stretch and that doesn’t bode well. Tom Kim and K-H Lee were two under for the 17 holes they played in defeat to Morikawa and Young so if they can replicate that level then they would have a chance here. I still can’t bring myself to take on two class acts here though.

Tony Finau & Max Homa vs Si Woo Kim & Cameron Davis

Match tees off at 12.48 BST

The final match of the foursomes matches sees the American pair of Tony Finau and Max Homa going out for a second time on the week when they meet the only Internationals duo with a full point to their name in Si Woo Kim and Cameron Davis.

Finau and Homa paired up to beat Taylor Pendrith and Mito Pereira on the final hole on Thursday but they were only one under for the round so you would imagine they’ll need a bit more than that here if they are to come out on top. Kim and Davis saw off the challenge of Scheffler and Burns on Thursday and you would imagine they’ll be bang up for this one as a result of that. They were three under for their 18 holes in that match and the longer the match went on the better they got. If there is an upset anywhere over the course of this session I fancy it could come here but I’m not as strong on it as I’d like to be to place a bet.
