Rothesay County Championship 2025 – Friday 2nd May Tips and Betting Preview

The Rothesay County Championship continues across both divisions on Friday as the tables begin to take shape as we already head towards the conclusion of the opening third of the red ball domestic campaign.

It is still the Indian Premier League that is getting all of the TV attention so if you have a bet on any of these matches and want to follow it then you will need to load up the live stream that is offered up by the home county.

Division One

We have just three matches in the top division this week and with the top three all not in action this time around there is the chance for the chasing pack to make something of a move. Essex are the highest placed side on show this week and they make the fairly long trip to Taunton to take on a Somerset team whose season hasn’t really got going. Just six points separate the other four teams on show with Warwickshire looking to make a bit of a move when they head to Headingley to take on Yorkshire while in the other match unbeaten Hampshire play host to a Durham side who begin the week two points ahead of them in the standings.

Division Two

We have a full round of matches in the second tier on Friday and it is currently Leicestershire leading the way. They are on home soil this week when they host a Northamptonshire side who are showing one or two signs of life under Darren Lehmann. Derbyshire are the surprise second placed outfit and they will be looking to push on when they head to Cardiff to take on rock bottom Glamorgan. Middlesex and Kent were touted for promotion before a ball was bowled this season and their clash at Lord’s could be significant while Lancashire will be looking for their first win of the campaign when they host Gloucestershire at Old Trafford.

Betting

I feared a little bit for Glamorgan this season. The absences of Michael Neser and Marnus Labuschagne left huge holes and they just don’t have the resources to recover from that and that is how it has played out this term so far. What the Welsh outfit couldn’t afford was injuries on top of that and they have a few with Mason Crane and Dan Douthwaite useful operators who are missing while Shoaib Bashir has gone back to Somerset now too.

That should open the door for another win for Derbyshire here. Glamorgan have played three matches and the first innings scores against them have been 427, 546 and 470/9. Derbyshire are going well enough with the bat but I do like their seam attack with Blair Tickner and Zak Chappell two of the better bowlers in the competition. It has been very dry in the UK this week which might bring Jack Morley into the game while last time out Derbyshire had Zak Chappell batting at nine and he has six First-class 50s to his name. A decent attack and good batting depth make Derbyshire look good things at 4/5.
