Royal London One Day Cup 2022 – Wednesday 17th August Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The Royal London One Day Cup returns from a couple of days off on Wednesday when a full round of group matches take place as we head towards the conclusion of the first stage of the domestic 50 over competition.

We are at the stage of the opening phase where those towards the top of the table need to keep winning to make it into the top three at the end of the group matches. With the Test and The Hundred going on we are reduced to the live stream to follow these games.

Group A

Middlesex head the way in Group A heading into the matches on Wednesday but they are the team who aren’t in action which means Leicestershire have the chance to steal a bit of a march at the top end of the table. They travel to Bristol to take on a Gloucestershire side who will move level on points with them should they win. Sussex begin the day in third place, two points off the top two, and will probably need to win their match away to Durham to keep their qualifying hopes alive. Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire are still alive in the competition but you sense whoever loses their clash against each other at Edgbaston will struggle to progress so that is a huge game. One match which isn’t so big sees Surrey hosting Somerset at The Oval in a contest where both teams have won win in 10 outings between them heading in.

Group B

The same situation is upon us in Group B of the competition where the leaders Hampshire aren’t in action on Wednesday. That will give the chance for Lancashire to move to within a point of the team who beat them on Sunday when they head to Neath to take on the current champions Glamorgan who have to win to keep their title defence alive. Yorkshire are stalking the front two and will look to move closer to Hampshire when they go to Chelmsford to take on an Essex side who are in good form suddenly. Northamptonshire and Derbyshire are drinking in the last chance saloon. The former know they can’t afford to lose at home to winless Worcestershire while the latter need to take advantage of a home match against Kent, who themselves can’t afford to lose.

Betting

I’ll go with the one bet on a day where we might be dodging the weather for the first time in the competition. That bet comes Chelmsford where Yorkshire will be hoping to make their move when they take on Essex in a key game for both sides. This is an Essex side who were already missing a string of key players and have added Aaron Beard and Jamie Porter to the list. That leaves a light look to their attack.

Yorkshire are also without a bunch of players who are either on England duty or playing for teams in The Hundred but they have been missing throughout the competition and they have still managed to win three matches and lose just one which was a narrow defeat to Lancashire. Yorkshire beat Glamorgan last time out and look to have a better balance to their side here especially with those two bowlers out for the home side.
