Royal London One Day Cup – Monday 1st August Matches Betting Preview

It is the penultimate day of group stage action in the Royal London One Day Cup on Monday with five matches taking place up and down the country as the two tight groups begin to yield their quarter finalists.

Both groups remain hugely competitive so nearly every match has something on it from here on in. One such game is the Yorkshire vs Warwickshire match which is the televised game on Monday. The other four matches are not on TV but I would expect Sky to keep updating things.

Yorkshire vs Warwickshire

Even though they lost on Sunday with results elsewhere Yorkshire qualified for the knockout stages of this competition. They need a win here to be sure of hosting a quarter final but win or lose they are through unlike Warwickshire who go into the match in fourth spot and knowing only a win will ensure they progress. In fact with Nottinghamshire playing Worcestershire, Warwickshire will be out if they lose so this is a huge game for them.

Yorkshire allowed Durham to get away from them in the latter stages of their innings on Sunday and then when it came to batting they just couldn’t quite get on top of a very good bowling attack. They face a similar test in that regard here so it will be interesting to see what they have learned from the Durham defeat.

Warwickshire had Sunday off and they might well have needed it as they recover from exiting the NatWest T20 Blast in horrific style on Friday night. With the dust having settled on that I’m expecting that elimination will have fired them up to do everything they can to qualify in this tournament. Another reason why having Sunday off is a bonus is it has allowed them to prepare unlike Yorkshire who have been playing and travelling in the run up to this match.

I’m going to take a couple of bets here. First of all I like Warwickshire to win the match. In 20 over cricket I think they are a batsman light but in this format of the game with the way they like to play I believe they are much better suited. There isn’t a weak link in their bowling attack and in a match which they have to win I will take them to build on the advantage they have of Yorkshire’s hectic last 24hrs and secure their place in the quarter final with a win.

I’ve also seen the performance line for Tim Bresnan which just looks far too low to me at 41.5. He is in amazing form at the minute as we saw on Sunday. In the last week alone he has bowling figures of 2/26, 2/24, 3/15 in a T20 and 2/65. Only one of those would cover this line although he did take a catch in one of those matches too but it is arguably with the bat where he has been even more impressive.

His scores in that time have been 24*, 95*, 7* in the T20 and 92 so there is every chance he could cover this total with the bat and the ball. Even if he fails in one discipline the other can back him up but an average day in either should see him safely past 41.5pts.

Non TV Matches – North Group

There are three other matches on the final afternoon in the North Group. Lancashire host Durham at Old Trafford in one of them with Durham needing a win to secure their quarter final spot while Lancashire are already out. Derbyshire host Leicestershire in a match between two sides who can no longer qualify while Nottinghamshire host Worcestershire in a match which is huge should Warwickshire fail to win.

Were Warwickshire to slip up then the winner of that match would go through to the quarter finals so that makes the afternoon very exciting indeed. Sadly the forecast for the Nottingham area isn’t the best so I’ll leave all three matches alone with rain likely to affect them all.

Non TV Matches – South Group

Just the one match takes place in the South as Surrey host Glamorgan at The Oval. Surrey need to win to enhance their qualifying chances while Glamorgan’s heavy loss on Sunday was so bad that their run rate was demolished and as such there is no way they can qualify.

You would think the winds will have officially left the sails of the Welsh outfit, if they hadn’t already given their recent form, so I’m expecting Surrey to come out on top but once again it must be said that the forecast for London isn’t the best on Monday so I will give this match a miss as well.
