Royal London One Day Cup – Sunday 12th June Matches Betting Preview

Another round of Royal London One Day Cup fixtures take place on Sunday as the second week of action kicks off. The tournament has been full of runs so far but the weather is about to take a turn for the worst which might have an impact on things. With the Test match on there is no TV game in this set of matches.

North Group

There are four matches in the North Group on Sunday. Northamptonshire host Leicestershire while Derbyshire face Yorkshire at Chesterfield rather than Derby. Durham take on Worcestershire up at the Riverside and Lancashire go against Nottinghamshire at Old Trafford.

There isn’t anything I like in the Northamptonshire game. I certainly can’t be backing the home side at odds on with all their injuries but I’d like Leicestershire in better form if I was to take them but I’m fine with leaving this game alone because there are three I like elsewhere in this group.

Nottinghamshire have been absolutely full of runs in recent times and if that continues at Old Trafford then Lancashire are in trouble. Even if it doesn’t I fancy the home side will have problems because Nottinghamshire have a very underrated bowling attack especially in tight situations.

The problem I have with Lancashire here is their lack of batting depth. Of course they could win any game with Jos Buttler capable of going absolutely mental but he will do well to clatter this Nottinghamshire attack to all parts and if Nottinghamshire get off to a fast start like they have been doing they are likely to give their bowlers plenty to defend or chase down any score.

Even at odds on I think Nottinghamshire are worth going with here with the stronger balance with the bat and the ball.

Coral have priced up a full set of markets on the other two matches and two of the lines in them look miles out. I’ll start with the Durham vs Worcestershire match where I’m not betting on the match outcome as there is no news on whether Daryl Mitchell will play for Worcestershire but I am happy to take Scott Borthwick’s runs with the line at 18.5.

I don’t know if this is the line because bookmakers think he bats at 10 in this format of the game like he does in the T20 but he doesn’t he bats at three and he’s pretty accomplished at it too as he showed when bashing 63 at Leicester last week. We know all about how well he bats in the County Championship and he’ll have time to build an innings here. This line is all wrong so I’m happy to go over there.

I wasn’t going to get involved in the Derbyshire vs Yorkshire match but once again I think Coral have messed up with their lines offering a sixes line at 7.5. That says to me they think the match is at Derby but it isn’t it is at Chesterfield, a much smaller ground and I don’t think that line is high enough.

It certainly isn’t high enough if the likes of David Willey, Liam Plunkett or Tim Bresnan get going nor will it be high enough if Yorkshire bowl the filth they sent down to Worcestershire last week. There are plenty of big hitters on both sides and on boundaries which are more than accessible I’ve got to believe we’ll get more than the 7.5 sixes required here.

South Group

There are three matches from this group with Sussex hosting Middlesex at Hove, Somerset heading to Chelmsford to face Essex and Glamorgan visiting Kent. I was tempted by Middlesex at Hove but there is rain around there so I’m running for the hills and the same can be said in the Kent game where Glamorgan were tempting but not quite enough.

I am liking a couple in the other match though. Both Essex and Somerset have begun this competition strongly with two wins from two. Essex have seen off Hampshire and Sussex while Somerset have beaten Gloucestershire and Surrey. I sense Somerset’s form guide is a stronger one and I’m going to chance them here at the prices.

I don’t think there is much between these two at all and it could all come down to the amount of batting depth Somerset have as we’ve already seen in this competition. I think they have the more balanced attack too with a couple of spinners which is something Essex lack.

I’m also going to take over 9.5 sixes. We all know Chelmsford is a small ground and there are some crazy hitters of a cricket ball on show here even without Chris Gayle who only plays T20 for Somerset. We’ve still got Bopara, Ryder, ten Doeschate, Napier, Trego, van der Merve and others so that line looks perfectly achievable and they are the two bets for me in that one.
