Royal London One Day Cup – Tuesday 7th June Matches Betting Preview

The next day of Royal London One Day Cup action takes place on Tuesday when we have four more matches in the 50 over competition which has really kicked off with a bang. As neutral observers we hope this is a case of what we can expect for the remainder of the tournament.

As with the first two days we have a TV match on Tuesday and we also have three matches away from the cameras as the two sides yet to get started in this tournament do so on Tuesday.

Monday recap

There might only have been three matches on Monday but what a day it was especially at Trent Bridge where records tumbled like rain in April! Nottinghamshire put up a quite remarkable 445/8 which you would think would be plenty but Rory Kleinveldt covered our performance bet and some with a brutal 124 as Northants got within 20 before being bowled out for 425. A wonderful effort.

Kleinveldt’s performance wasn’t the only winner we enjoyed on Monday as Glamorgan trounced Gloucestershire by 52 runs to bring that in but annoyingly we were one six short in the live game between Sussex and Essex which the visitors won with six balls to spare. Even so Monday was very encouraging on the betting front.

Yorkshire vs Worcestershire

The TV game on Tuesday comes from Headingley as Yorkshire take on Worcestershire for the second time in a week after the two met in the T20 on Thursday. Worcestershire won on that occasion and that was expected by us as we favour Worcestershire in that format but we don’t have the same feeling for them in this format.

Of the two one day formats this should be the one Yorkshire are best suited to with the way they bat and the quality they have with the ball. Over four overs bowlers can bowl well and still get smashed but over 10 overs that isn’t the case very often.

I think the odds are about right for this match and given that it is Yorkshire’s first game in the tournament it is hard to go too deep in the side markets so all I’m going to get involved with here is a top batsman.

That is on Worcestershire’s Ross Whiteley, a man who enjoyed playing here last season when he bludgeoned a huge score in the T20. I’m not surprised he went well because he hits pace on the ball an absolute mile but spinners can’t really bowl to him either especially Adil Rashid with Whiteley being left handed.

Whiteley is gaining consistency all the time at this level and this is the sort of platform he needs to perform on if he is to push for international honours of some kind. At 9/1 I think he’s got a live chance here especially with Yorkshire’s attack having the ability to take early wickets.

Non TV Matches – North Group

There are two other matches in the North Group which are away from the cameras. Derbyshire host Durham in Derby in a battle of two sides who won their opening match while Warwickshire welcome Leicestershire to Edgbaston in a clash between two teams who lost their first matches.

Durham are a weird side. They were rolled over for nothing at Leicester in the T20 on Saturday and then rocked back up to the same ground on Sunday and plundered over 300. Derbyshire are equally as inconsistent so I’m finding that one really tough to call although my gut instinct is for Durham. It isn’t strong enough to act on though.

Warwickshire should see off Leicestershire but Leicestershire are a dangerous side when it all clicks and even then the Bears are pretty cramped in price, understandably so but not attractively so. With that in mind I’ll leave these two matches alone.

Non TV Matches – South Group

There is just the one match in the South Group on Tuesday and it comes from Radlett where Middlesex take on a Hampshire side who must be sick to death of seeing the Londoners. In the space of the last two weeks these two have met in the County Championship and the NatWest T20 Blast and Middlesex have enjoyed huge wins both times.

I fancy they will make it a hattrick here too. Hampshire are without their captain James Vince now who is away with England and his replacement on Sunday, Tom Alsop, fell ill and is out here which leaves another huge hole in their batting line up. Their bowling attack isn’t at its strongest either.

Middlesex certainly have no issues on the batting front. Brendon McCullum has been named in the squad fresh from giving the Cowdrey Lecture at Lord’s on Monday, and a very good lecture it was too! He joins the likes of Dawid Malan, Paul Stirling, Eoin Morgan and James Franklin in a very strong looking Middlesex batting line up.

The bowling attack still looks pretty good for this level even without Steven Finn too so after the dominance Middlesex have already shown Hampshire this season I’m expecting them to make it three out of three in this one.
