Betting

Whenever you bet on markets like these in this tournament you have to try and second guess things. We know the line ups for the opening round now but really we’re after players who will play as many matches as possible. Almost as importantly we’re looking for someone who you would back to win a singles match because everyone plays them on their own and that could separate two players who might play together all week.

We don’t necessarily need to rule out the four men who aren’t playing in the opening round but as luck would have it I don’t fancy any of the four anyway although I would have been tempted with Ryan Moore if he hadn’t been picked so late.

Personally I have this between four men. They are Jordan Spieth, Patrick Reed, Dustin Johnson and Matt Kuchar. The first three named are all 6/1 or shorter which aren’t really my sort of odds when guesswork is required but Kuchar is 12/1 and that is much more acceptable.

Kuchar will play alongside the hottest man on the American team right now in Dustin Johnson in the first round and there is no reason why a steady Eddie like him won’t play in fourballs when they come around. He and Johnson should be a good pairing and they have a favourable first match so the 12/1 on the Olympic bronze medallist looks good to me.
