The second half of the double header of action in the SA20 on Wednesday takes us to the picturesque Newlands ground in Cape Town for the clash between MI Cape Town and the Pretoria Capitals.
Both sides go into the match still looking for their first win in the campaign and they will be keen to get that as quickly as possible to ease any mounting pressure and to get themselves into the competition and a positive frame of mind.
MI Cape Town
MI Cape Town will be a frustrated team so far in this competition. Their title defence opened with a very high scoring defeat to the Durban’s Super Giants here in the first game of the new season and then they were hampered by the rain in the return match so although they have two points on the board, they will be looking to pick up the win here and put a bit of business between themselves and this opponent as we start to build towards the halfway point of the season.
The good thing for Cape Town is that their batting looks in decent order. There are some small grounds in this competition so teams who bat well give themselves a better chance but if they are going to go all the way this season then they simply have to find a lot more with the ball. To be fair to them, the pitch the first game was played on was an absolute beauty but they are going to encounter a few of them and they can’t keep conceding over 220 so their bowling effort will be on interest here.
Pretoria Capitals
The season hasn’t started the way the Pretoria Capitals would have wanted it to either. They have played two matches and they have lost them both and that can’t be considered ideal especially given some of the eye catching work that they did at the auction ahead of this competition. The Capitals would have been particularly annoyed to lose the local derby with Johannesburg Super Kings in their opening match but they probably shouldn’t be too downbeat about losing to the Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the second one.
The one thing we can say about the Pretoria Capitals so far in the competition is that they look a batter light in their order so they are going to need probably three players in their top five to come up with the goods and one of those three to go very big. In the main the Capitals have bowled well though. If they go in with the extra bowling option then you would expect them to bowl well particularly with the level of bowler they have acquired so it is good that the bowling unit is delivering the goods.

Key Players
Ryan Rickelton reminded the South Africa selectors of his qualities in the opening match for the MI Cape Town side when be bludgeoned a century and the defending champions will be hoping that their opener can go big again.
Dewald Brevis arrived at the Pretoria Capitals from MI Cape Town for a big fee but he has delivered two ordinary efforts so far. The Capitals will be hoping that familiarity with this opponent will lead him to deliver the fireworks expected of him.
Betting
I think we are going to see a high scoring match here. There is little to suggest that the MI Cape Town bowlers have found their range yet, although to be fair to them they have only bowled at the Durban’s Super Giants this season so far. They haven’t got it right at all though and there are some Pretoria Capitals batters who can take advantage. It has been the opposite for the Capitals but their bowlers will have their work cut out containing this MI Cape Town batting unit.
The decision that we have is choosing how best to play this match from a high scoring expectation point of view and I’ll go with the boundaries where the 40.5 line looks a little on the low side to me. In the one match there has been on this ground this season so far we saw 64 boundaries hit while in their two games so far Pretoria have conceded 24 boundaries and 26 boundaries. This isn’t the biggest ground in the world and the weather is fine so we should see another match full of boundaries.
