Scottish Open Snooker 2025 Qualifying – Day 4 Tips and Betting Preview

It is the final day of the Scottish Open qualifying competition on Friday when the final 15 players to make it through to the main venue will be decided on a day where we should see some competitive action across the four sessions.

As with Thursday, we have players ranked 33-64 in the world rankings facing one of the winners from the opening round with four frames the required number to ensure a date with a top 32 star in Edinburgh in December.

Morning Session

We were due to have four matches in the morning session but the late withdrawal of Lyu Haotian has reduced us to three games, each of which have a Chinese representative in them. Xu Si is the highest ranked player on show and he has landed what is fast becoming a horror draw in the form of Chang Bingyu. Robbie Williams is the next highest ranked star on show and he’ll meet the women’s world champion Bai Yulu with the other match seeing Scott Donaldson looking to qualify for his home event when he faces Gao Yang.

Early Afternoon Session

The pick of the matches in the first part of the afternoon is a repeat of a quarter final from the Xi’an Grand Prix last week as Daniel Wells goes up against Liam Pullen in a clash between two men whose form would ordinarily see them into the main draw. David Lilley is another player making his bow in the tournament here. He will face the Polish youngster Antoni Kowalski while Gong Chenzhi is another who starts out his campaign here. He will face Robbie McGuigan while the other match of the quartet has Ishpreet Singh Chadha playing Dylan Emery.

Later Afternoon Session

The former world champion and 2021 winner of this tournament Luca Brecel is the highest ranked player on show in the second part of the afternoon and he’ll look to make it into the final stages of the event at the expense of Steven Hallworth. Ricky Walden is the next highest player taking to the baize in this session and he’ll meet Wang Yuchen while Fan Zhengyi goes up against Ka Wai Cheung. There is another all-Asian match rounding off the afternoon as Thepchaiya Un-Nooh faces his Thai compatriot Chatchapong Nasa.

Evening Session

Stan Moody is the star attraction in the last session of the qualifying competition. He’ll be looking to end the hopes of the home player Ross Muir to make it through to the main stage. Mark Davis is having a decent enough season and he’ll hope that continues when he plays the other home player involved in the evening session in Liam Graham. He Guoqiang is seeded to make the main draw but he has a tricky tie against Alexander Ursenbacher to overcome while the other match will pit Zak Surety and Duane Jones against each other.

Betting

There isn’t a huge amount that stands out on the final day of the qualifying event but the odds against on Dylan Emery to get the better of Ishpreet Singh Chadha is a bet that I just can’t ignore. Chadha hasn’t really pulled up trees this season with him failing to make the final stages of the likes of the British Open, Saudi Arabia Masters, Northern Ireland Open and the International Championship. He has only made five breaks of 80 or more all season and for a player whose strength is his scoring that isn’t a good sign.

Emery has had a much better campaign. The only tournament he didn’t qualify for was the British Open when he went down to Anthony McGill in a deciding frame which is no terrible outcome. Emery has been doing some scoring. He has made five centuries this term and another five breaks over 80 so when the chances come his way he is likely to make the most of them. One of those 80 breaks came in the previous round here which shows he is hitting the ball well. The form suggests that Emery is a big price here.
