Sky Bet Championship 2021-22 – Saturday 15th January Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The Sky Bet Championship season continues on Saturday afternoon when the majority of another round of matches take place up and down the country. This league has stalled a little with all the Covid issues running through it and we have one game cancelled taking us down to 10 on the day.

As with most Saturday’s in this league there is a TV game to enjoy which thankfully has made it through the Covid problems. The normal ways of keeping up with the other games are also around so we can stay in touch with our bets.

Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (3pm unless stated; UK TV in brackets)

Cardiff City v Blackburn Rovers (12.30pm)

Luton Town v AFC Bournemouth (12.30pm – Sky Main Event & Sky Football)

Derby County v Sheffield United

Fulham v Bristol City

Huddersfield Town v Swansea City

Middlesbrough v Reading

Millwall v Nottingham Forest

Peterborough United v Coventry City

Preston North End v Birmingham City

Queens Park Rangers v West Bromwich Albion

Big Matches

The action begins with the TV game which comes from Kenilworth Road this week as the leaders AFC Bournemouth head to Bedfordshire to take on a Luton Town side who are a whole lot better than their bottom half league position suggests. The Hatters have slid down the table having not played in the league for five weeks but they shook off a load of rust when they beat Harrogate in the cup last week. Bournemouth will be looking to open up a four point gap at the top of the table with a win. If they don’t win the game then Fulham will have the chance to go top when they play host to Bristol City. Blackburn Rovers may well have moved into second place in the table by the time Fulham play though as they head to Cardiff City in another early kick off.

Best of the Rest

Two teams in the top five in the table meet in London when fifth placed QPR play host to fourth placed West Bromwich Albion who have seen their promotion charge stall over recent weeks. Huddersfield Town are the other members of the top six and they are in action on Saturday too. They host Swansea City. At the other end of the table Derby County will look to give themselves more hope of beating the drop despite more off field turbulence when they welcome Sheffield United to Pride Park. Peterborough United are the other team in the bottom three who play on Saturday. They host Coventry City while just above the relegation zone Reading will be looking to make up for their midweek mauling when they head to Middlesbrough.

Betting

I’ll go with one bet over the course of the day in the Championship as well with that coming at the John Smith’s Stadium where Huddersfield Town can continue their good recent form when they host a potentially undercooked Swansea City side. Swansea have had their schedule decimated recently because of Covid problems in the camp and although they played in the FA Cup last week they haven’t played in the league for a full five weeks.

Huddersfield Town have been largely undisturbed in that period and are in good form. They are undefeated in six in the league and went to Burnley and won in the Cup last week too. They had won three on the spin before a draw with Blackburn ended that run but they are strong at home and look to have the beating of a Swansea team whose squad isn’t the deepest so any lingering Covid issues is going to put them under further pressure here. The Welsh outfit have only won three games on the road and two of those were at Bristol City who couldn’t win at home at the time and who were the better side on the night anyway, and Barnsley who look rotten this term. I think the Huddersfield momentum can continue here.
