Preview

The two promotion contenders who get the chance to enhance their position are Blackburn Rovers and West Bromwich Albion. Blackburn are absolutely flying right now and are involved in the game of the day as they look to move into second place and a point behind the leaders Bournemouth. They host another side in good form in the shape of Huddersfield Town, who will be looking to continue to fend off the chasers in the race for the top six. West Bromwich Albion are the other promotion chaser on show. They could do with a win to restore a little confidence and belief after a tough Christmas period. They host Cardiff City.

The other two matches are mid-table affairs in the main although that would be harsh on Queens Park Rangers who can actually move into the top six if they kick off 2022 with a win. They go to Birmingham City who aren’t really going anywhere but need to be careful not to drop towards the bottom three. Bristol City are in action in the other game when they welcome a Millwall side who are still being impacted by Covid.

Betting

I’ll take the one over the course of the afternoon which comes from St Andrew’s where I think QPR can see off Birmingham City. This feels like a big match for the Londoners as they chase a place in the top six because after this match they will lose three key players to the Africa Cup of Nations so they will want to make sure that the trio depart with a win which will keep them in and around the mix until they return from international duty.

Rangers go to Birmingham who haven’t played in a couple of weeks and who only have one win in their last seven matches. Their bright start to the season is beginning to look more of a fluke with every passing month so if QPR are serious about challenging for promotion this season then this is a match they need to be looking at winning. QPR have three wins and a draw from their last five visits to Birmingham and I think the gulf between the two sides is growing so I’ll take them on the draw no bet Asian lines.
