Preview

The televised match in terms of the main channel sees the latest leg of the Derby County bid to avoid the drop. They play host to a Hull City side who have suddenly come alive and have won three of their last four matches and will be confident of pulling further clear of the drop. Barnsley aren’t quite in the last chance saloon just yet but the doors to that particular bar are getting ready to open for them. They will hope to keep them locked a little longer when they make the trip to take on in form Luton.

At the other end of the table the leaders Fulham will be looking to take advantage of the chasing pack not playing until Wednesday to pile the pressure on them by opening up a sizeable eight point gap at the top when they welcome Millwall to Craven Cottage. The other games should be competitive affairs between four sides in the middle of the table as Coventry City go up against Blackpool while Stoke City welcome Swansea City in a clash of styles at the Bet365 Stadium.

Betting

I’ll take one bet on Tuesday evening and that comes from Kenilworth Road where Luton Town host a Barnsley side who look like they are gone to me. These two sides came out of League 1 together three seasons ago but they have gone in opposite directions since then. Luton have grown season upon season and are on the up whereas Barnsley are a side who look grossly out of their depth after a campaign of the high life last term.

I have repeatedly mentioned Barnsley’s overall form and away form and that has not changed recently. If anything they are getting worse. They are without a win in 12 matches in the league and in that time they have only scored five goals, without scoring more than once in any of those games. You would think they will need to score more than one to get anything out of a team who are fifth best in the league in terms of overall xG. Luton were able to rest a number of starters for their win over Cambridge at the weekend so should be fresh for this one and as I mentioned last week their midweek record this term now reads P9 W6 D3 L0. That isn’t a fluke because Kenilworth Road has a charm and magic under floodlights which players respond to. I expect them to do so again here.
