Sky Bet Championship 2022-23 – Luton vs Cardiff Tips, TV and Betting Preview

There is one match in the Sky Bet Championship on Tuesday evening as two sides rearranged the fixture which was meant to take place three days prior as Luton Town welcome Cardiff City to Kenilworth Road.

Luton were involved in FA Cup action on Saturday but could move into the top four in the table if they can find a victory here. Cardiff are now one place above the relegation zone and the teams below them have a game in hand so this is a big match for both sides.

Where to watch

The match will be shown live and in full on the red button service on Sky for those who have that service. The kick off at Kenilworth Road is at 7.45pm.

Luton Town

Luton head into the contest as one of the form teams in the division. They have won four of their last six matches in the Championship and the two defeats were when down to 10 men against Middlesbrough and from 2-0 up against West Brom – two of the fellow form sides in the second tier. They are also unbeaten in three in the cup so the Hatters have taken to life under Rob Edwards very nicely and have a big chance ahead of them here.

The surprise with Luton this season is their home form isn’t actually that good compared to previous campaigns. They have only won three of 13 home matches this term and are fifth worst in the league for points gained at home. The flip side of that is they have only lost three as well. Kenilworth Road has seen a lot of draws this season. Since Rob Edwards arrived goals have been coming freely for Luton which is a positive.

Cardiff City

Cardiff begin yet another new era in this match with Sabri Lamouchi starting his reign as Bluebirds boss here. He will be the third manager that the Welsh outfit have had and we are not even into February yet. He will have to work with the squad his predecessors had though because a transfer embargo has been placed on Cardiff but he will be hoping for the new manager bounce which often comes when a different face comes into the building.

When Lamouchi has his feet under the desk and is acclimatised to life in Wales he will need to find a way to get this team to score goals. They are comfortably the lowest scorers in the Championship even though they have played more matches than a number of teams in the division. Cardiff are without a win in nine league games and 11 overall if you include the two FA Cup matches with Leeds and have only scored one goal in their last five in the league.

Team News

Luton could give a debut to Leeds United loanee Cody Drameh who could be competing against the club he was on loan with last season. Goalkeeper Jack Walton could also make his first appearance for the Hatters but Harry Cornick is expected to leave before the game.

Sabri Lamouchi will name his first team for this match and hasn’t given too much away about the personnel he could go with. One player who won’t be involved is Curtis Nelson who left over the weekend.

Betting

This match is a little cloudier in terms of a bet than it might have been had it been played on Saturday when it was meant to as Luton Town are doing plenty of late work to their squad and Cardiff have had a few more days under the coaching of Sabri Lamouchi. I would still be surprised if the new manager gets much of a tune out of a pretty poor Cardiff side but there is the new manager bounce fear and also the home form of Luton isn’t as reliable as you’d want it to be.

One thing which does seem to be reliable is the form of the Hatters in front of goal. They have played six league matches under Rob Edwards and have scored two or more goals in five of them with the one they failed in being the first of those games when everyone was getting back up and running after the World Cup and Luton ended that game with 10 men. They have also scored two goals in two of the three FA Cup games in that period so in seven of the nine games under their new boss. Luton have Elijah Adebayo back in top form and top scorer Carlton Morris is expected to return for this one. Cardiff have conceded two or more in seven of their 13 away games this season with some of those who didn’t score twice against them including Wigan and Huddersfield, who are both in the bottom three. Kenilworth Road is notoriously tough to go to under lights and regardless of the result I see the Hatters scoring twice here.
