Sky Bet Championship 2022-23 – Saturday 13th August Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The third weekend of the Sky Bet Championship season continues on Saturday when the majority of the remaining matches of the round take place on what is going to be a scorching hot day across the UK which is less than ideal when these teams have to back up again in midweek.

We have one of these matches on TV to enjoy on Saturday. That game gets us going for the day. The usual ways of keeping up with all the other matches will be needed for the 3pm games with those not on TV.

Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (3pm unless stated; UK TV in brackets)

Cardiff City v Birmingham City (12.30 – Sky Football)

Blackpool v Swansea City

Huddersfield Town v Stoke City

Hull City v Norwich City

Luton Town v Preston North End

Millwall v Coventry City

Rotherham United v Reading

Sunderland v Queens Park Rangers

Wigan Athletic v Bristol City

Big Matches

The televised action is a bit of a weird pick as Cardiff City who have a win and a loss on their record so far, play host to a Birmingham City who are a point better off having taken on two of the teams who were beaten in the play-offs last season. Elsewhere Norwich City will be looking for their first win back at this level when they head up to the MKM Stadium to take on Hull City, while Sunderland who began the week in second place, host Queens Park Rangers who edged out Middlesbrough last week.

Best of the Rest

The other two promoted sides are in action with home matches this week. Rotherham United have only played one match which they drew against Swansea City. They’ll look for more when Rotherham United visit the New York Stadium. Wigan Athletic are the other side to come up and after opening their campaign with a couple of draws they welcome Bristol City who haven’t got a point this season to the DW Stadium. Huddersfield Town and Luton Town were both beaten in the play-offs last term and both go in search of a first win in this campaign here. Huddersfield host Stoke City while Luton take on a Preston North End whose matches haven’t seen a single goal to date.

Betting

Wigan Athletic have started the season with a pair of creditable draws against Preston North End and Norwich City and I think they can pick up their first win of the campaign when they welcome an already disappointing Bristol City side to the DW Stadium. Bristol City were undone by their defence last season and despite reinforcing that in the summer it doesn’t look like anything has changed in that regard given they have shipped five goals already against a poor Hull side and a Sunderland outfit who have only just got promoted.

Wigan have only just come back into the division themselves but unlike a lot of teams who come into this division they do carry a goal threat with the likes of Charlie Wyke and Will Keane. They are pretty strong defensively too which might well be the difference in this match because Bristol City look like they can be exposed in that department. Wigan are still carrying the good vibes of last season with them whereas even this early confidence might be low in the visitors. If there is a winner here I fancy it to be the home side.
