Big Matches

The televised action gets us underway on Saturday afternoon and it sees Norwich City looking to move into the top six for a few hours at least when they make the trip to take on a Coventry City side who have hit the buffers after a good run of form prior to the international break. Watford begin the day in third place and they will look to fend off a significant chasing pack for that position when they play host to Rotherham United who should be buoyed by their annihilation of Blackburn Rovers last week.

Best of the Rest

The aforementioned Blackburn Rovers can finish the day in third place themselves if results go their way. They have a trip to Bristol City to endure and overcome. Millwall and Luton Town are the other two teams who have a good chance of ending the day in the top six. Both go on their travels on Saturday. The Londoners head to Cardiff City for a game even the purists wouldn’t want to watch while Luton head back to the DW Stadium to face Wigan Athletic four days after dumping them out of the FA Cup. Two teams in the bottom three meet at Bloomfield Road where Blackpool host Huddersfield Town in a key game for both sides.

Betting

I’ll go with the one bet on Saturday and it comes in what I know with my own side Luton Town who will know all about their opponents Wigan Athletic given that the two sides have just played a couple of cup ties against each other over the last fortnight. Luton controlled both of those matches and eventually won the second one in Wigan on Tuesday night in a match where they had 57% possession and 13 shots to the three of the home side.

Wigan have a couple of new signings that they can bring into their side for this one but Luton are expected to recall top scorer Carlton Morris to their team after he sat out the replay in midweek. Luton are a side on the up under Rob Edwards whereas the Kolo Toure entrance at the DW Stadium hasn’t really had the impact those concerned would have wanted. Two of the four goals Wigan have scored this season have been worldies and if they don’t have another of those up their locker I expect Luton to have the firepower to win this one but given they know each other so well it makes sense to get the draw out of the picture.
