Big Matches

We get underway at the Stadium of Light where by the time the match kicks off it could be managerless Sunderland who play host to Norwich City depending on the outcome of talks between Alex Neil and Stoke City. Sunderland will be looking to make the most of their good start to the season but host a Norwich side who have won their last two matches. Sheffield United were in action on Friday night so the chasing pack get their chance to respond on Saturday and they are headed by Watford, Reading and Blackburn Rovers. The Hornets host QPR in a London derby while Reading are in south London to take on Millwall. Blackburn welcome Stoke City to Ewood Park.

Best of the Rest

At the other end of the table there will be a rare citing of the Coventry City players this term as they play just their third match of the season when they make the lengthy trip to the MKM Stadium to take on Hull City. Middlesbrough are the other side without a win in the Championship this season and they will look to put that right when they host a Swansea City side at the Riverside who could do with making the most of being away from home as they have been a little gun shy in Wales recently. Elsewhere, Huddersfield Town will look for a second win on the season when they host West Brom while Cardiff City take on a Preston side whose five matches so far have contained just one goal. Promoted sides Rotherham United and Wigan Athletic both have home matches against Birmingham City and Burnley respectively.

Betting

This isn’t the easiest looking card for a few reasons not least that we are six matches into a crazy month and seven for the Championship sides which played in the cup in midweek. That is a tough slog at the best of times let alone in the heat and everything else the players have been playing in so fatigue is pretty obvious. That is only going to lead to some more unpredictable results in the competition so rather than take a match outcome bet I’ll go with a goals market.

The match in question is the one between Hull City and Coventry City. I’ll assume the visitors haven’t forgotten how to play football having only played twice this season but the one thing they can’t be accused of is being tired. They should be fresh as a daisy and they are a side who always carry a goal threat. We saw last time out at Millwall that they can be vulnerable at the back though and the same things apply to Hull City who have just shipped five at West Brom, although to their credit they did score twice in that match. The Tigers have Colombia international Oscar Estupinan leading the line and he already looks too good for this level. He can inspire Hull to put the ball in the net but with the threat Coventry have too I fancy over 2.5 goals in this one.
