Sky Bet Championship 2022-23 – Sunday 23rd October Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The Sky Bet Championship weekend concludes on Sunday on what is derby day in the division as two sets of local rivalries come to the fore on what should be an excellent day of football in the second tier of the pyramid.

One of the two matches is live on the TV for us to enjoy while the other one will be on the red button for those who have that service available to them. That means if we have a bet we can follow its progress easily enough.

Swansea City vs Cardiff City (12.00 – Sky Main Event & Sky Football)

The South Wales derby gets the TV treatment as far as the main channel is concerned on Sunday afternoon when Swansea City take on their Welsh rivals Cardiff City in what is sure to be a fiercely contested clash.

Swansea have made a good start to the season and a win here could see them end the day in fourth place in the table depending on the result of the other match. Cardiff can’t seem to find the consistency they are searching for and you sense this will be crucial to their season. The Bluebirds sit just two points off the drop zone so they could really do with getting a result in this match but they head to a Swansea side who have won five of their last six matches and their last three on home soil. If all things were equal and normal I would be happy to back Swansea here but we know form goes out of the window in a derby so I’m happy to keep my powder dry.

Watford vs Luton Town (12.00 – Sky Red Button)

The other match sees an equally as bitter rivalry coming to the fore when Watford host Luton Town in a derby clash between the two which is the first one both sets of supporters will be present at for 16 years.

That is sure to guarantee a fever-pitch atmosphere at Vicarage Road with Watford looking to show why they have been in and out of the Premier League for the last decade while the visitors will be looking to remind their hosts of the better times they have had in the fixture throughout the test of time. Luton head south in excellent form with them unbeaten in seven while Watford have lost three of their last four matches so if form in these games counted for anything then you would be looking to get on the visitors in some way. It will go out of the window here though so I’m going to go for another angle for a bet in this one. I like 4.5 cards in this one. Both teams have players who are serial collectors of cards and both are led by passionate managers who are sure to have their charges up for this in what will be a great atmosphere. It has the potential to be a toxic one if the home side fall behind too so the cards could really flow here. Add in the weather which has been awful in the build up to the game so the conditions are going to be slick and I think we’ll have a busy referee for this one.
