Sky Bet Championship 2022-23 – Tuesday 13th September Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

After having the weekend off to commemorate the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, the Sky Bet Championship returns this midweek with half of the division in action on what should be a decent Tuesday evening of football.

One of the six matches is live on the main TV channel for us to enjoy but this is the first midweek of the season where those with access to the red button service can actually use it to watch any match of their choosing.

Tuesday’s fixtures are as follows: (7.45pm unless stated, main TV in brackets)

Blackburn Rovers v Watford

Huddersfield Town v Wigan Athletic

Hull City v Stoke City

Middlesbrough v Cardiff City

Swansea City v Sheffield United

Preview

The televised action focuses on two of the historical clubs in Lancashire when Preston North End, who finally conceded a goal last time out, play host to a Burnley side who have started the season well in their quest for promotion straight back to the Premier League. Elsewhere, the leaders Sheffield United are in action and with the three teams immediately below them in the table not playing until Wednesday the Blades can open up a four point lead at the top if they can come away from Swansea City with a win.

Two teams in the top seven meet at Ewood Park where Blackburn Rovers will look to recover from a slump after their good start to the season when they entertain Watford while Hull City, who also made a good start to the campaign only to fall away recently, welcome Stoke City to the MKM Stadium. The other two matches see the League 1 champions of last season, Wigan Athletic, heading to Huddersfield Town while Cardiff City have a ridiculous midweek journey to Middlesbrough.

Betting

There isn’t a huge amount that I like over the course of the evening in truth but what I do like is for Wigan Athletic to pick up a result away to Huddersfield Town when the two meet at the John Smith’s Stadium. Huddersfield are struggling just like I expected them to at the beginning of the season and although their performances have slowly started to get better their results haven’t, and neither has their goalscoring record, although to be fair to them even when they do score they’re not getting given.

Wigan were one of the sides I was taking a watching brief on this season but having seen them with my own eyes last time out I think there is enough mileage in backing them. For a side who have just come up from League 1 they have a decent squad which contains a good blend of power, physicality, skill and pace and it might be that on the road where they can sit in and use that pace on the counter is when they will be at their most potent. Only Burnley have beaten Wigan so far this season while Huddersfield have only beaten Stoke. Huddersfield aren’t as good as Burnley and Wigan are better than Stoke so if there is a winner here I fancy it to be the visitors.

Tips

Back Wigan Athletic (0AH) to beat Huddersfield Town for a 3/10 stake at 1.98 with William Hill
