Preview

The top two are both in action on Wednesday evening and they both go on their travels looking for the points to keep them in comfortable positions in the promotion race. The leaders Burnley are as good as up already and they can go closer to securing their return to the Premier League when they head to the MKM Stadium to take on Hull City. Sheffield United are suddenly seriously looking over their shoulders and face a very tricky test at a Sunderland side who haven’t given up hopes of finishing in the top six just yet.

Luton Town began the midweek action in fourth in the table after winning at Sheffield United at the weekend. They will be well aware that they need to win at home to Bristol City else they effectively cut that win in half. Blackburn Rovers slipped up in the race for the top two on Friday night but they have the chance to repair the damage when they host Reading before looking ahead to their FA Cup quarter final on Sunday. The other two matches sees Norwich City looking to bounce back from defeat on Sunday when they head to lowly Huddersfield Town while Cardiff City and West Bromwich Albion will be after the points for very different reasons.

Betting

I’m probably not being too original here but it is hard to overlook Blackburn Rovers in their match with Reading. If I’m honest I’m a little tentative that Blackburn have an FA Cup quarter final four days after this match but even so Reading have fallen apart and look there for the taking to me. Reading are facing a six point deduction for financial irregularities but more of a concern in this match must be their away form.

They haven’t won any of their last eight away matches and haven’t scored in the last five and were terrible at Cardiff recently and got thumped 5-0 the last time they went on their travels. Blackburn have been in good form over the last month or so. They saw an eight-match unbeaten run come to an end on Friday night when they lost to Stoke but I expect them to get back on the horse here. Only Burnley have picked up more points at home this season than Blackburn with Rovers having played fewer home matches than anyone. In contrast to that, only Huddersfield have picked up fewer than the 11 points Reading have secured on the road. As long as Blackburn are focused on this match I expect them to win quite comfortably.
