Sky Bet Championship 2022-23 – Wednesday 17th August Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The midweek action in the Sky Bet Championship concludes on Wednesday evening when the final four matches take place on what will be a much cooler night than we have had in the country so far this season to give the players some respite.

One of the four matches will be live on the TV for us to enjoy and observe but if you have a bet on the other three and aren’t going to one of those games you’ll need to fork out £10 to that club for access to a live stream.

Wednesday’s fixtures are as follows: (8pm unless stated, UK TV in brackets)

Stoke City v Middlesbrough (7.45pm)

Reading v Blackburn Rovers

Sheffield United v Sunderland (Sky Main Event & Sky Football)

West Bromwich Albion v Cardiff City

Preview

The televised offering sees two sides who have made positive starts to the season meeting when Sheffield United welcome Sunderland to Bramall Lane in a match which might show off the credentials of both teams this season. They are both chasing Blackburn Rovers and the leaders could move three points clear at the top of the table if they can find a fourth win in a row to keep their 100% record intact when they go to the Madejski Stadium to take on a Reading side looking to make up for a thumping at the hands of Rotherham at the weekend.

There are two other matches on the evening with West Bromwich Albion looking to find a first win of the campaign when they go up against a Cardiff City side who have won both their home matches this term but yet to get anything on their travels. Stoke City have one win to their name and they will be looking to double their tally when a winless Middlesbrough are the latest visitors to the Bet365 Stadium.

Betting

There were fears over Reading when the season began and you would have to say they have done nothing to alleviate those concerns with comfortable losses at Blackpool and Rotherham bookending a win over Cardiff which came about because of a worldy winner. I’m not convinced the Royals are going to get it much easier when they welcome the only 100% record left in the Championship to town. That of course belongs to Blackburn Rovers.

Blackburn have opened up in very emphatic style. The questions over whether Jon Dahl Tomasson was the man for them look to have been answered with his side only conceding one goal in their opening three matches but also carrying plenty of goal threat too. There is nothing to suggest they won’t be without that threat here so if they can remain tight at the back you’ve got to think a strong Blackburn side will have too much for their hosts here.
