Sky Bet Championship 2024-25 – Coventry City vs Leeds United Tips and Betting Preview

We have another rearranged match in the Sky Bet Championship on Wednesday evening when two of the form sides in the division meet as Coventry City look to continue their push for the play-offs when they host the leaders Leeds United.

Unfortunately despite the raised profile of this match in light of the form of the two sides, there is no UK TV coverage of this one so you will need to find other ways of keeping update on this one throughout the 90 minutes.

Coventry City

The first half of the season was clearly one of underachieving for Coventry City yet despite that there were a few eyebrows raised when Frank Lampard replaced Mark Robins at the helm for the Sky Blues but the longer time goes on the more that is looking a bit of an inspired move. Coventry have gone from relegation candidates to play-off challengers in the space of no time really and a win here would move them level with the sixth placed team and set up a fascinating final third of the campaign.

Coventry go into this match off the back of four wins in succession in the Championship and they have signed one of the best midfielders at this level in that time too in Matt Grimes so they will be feeling very good about themselves. This Coventry attacking unit has the potential to be one of the best in the competition and having scored twice in each of their last three matches they look to be coming to the boil. Defensively they are much improved too with four goals conceded in their last eight games.

Leeds United

After the heartache of missing out in the play-off final last season, Leeds United have been excellent this term and rightly sit on top of the pile. They have the chance to go five points clear at the top of the table here and put a bit of distance between themselves and the chasing pack as we head towards the business end of the campaign, the part in proceedings where they don’t always deliver the goods as much as they would be expected to it has to be said.

Leeds are the top scorers in the competition and they are in that position by a country mile, helped of course by the seven that they notched against Cardiff City at the weekend but for all they are the best team in the league, they will be well aware that away from home they are not as strong, at least in terms of their results. Leeds have only won three of their last 11 on their travels in the Championship and two of those were against strugglers in Derby County and Stoke City so they need to work on that if they are going to make things comfortable for themselves.

Team News

Frank Lampard could give a debut to his new signing Matt Grimes but the former Chelsea boss will be without the likes of Ben Sheaf, Haji Wright and Ephron Mason-Clark for this contest. Tatsuhiro Sakamoto will be hoping for a start.

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke has confirmed that Pascal Struijk is in contention to start the match after he has recovered from his hamstring issue. That leaves Patrick Bamford as the only player unavailable for selection here.

Betting

When you consider that Leeds United haven’t conceded in their last four matches and Coventry City have only shipped four in their last eight games it would probably be wise to expect a low scoring match and in essence the under 2.5 goals is a more than fair price but I just can’t bring myself to get involved in that where the Leeds keeper is concerned because he has mistakes in him too regularly for my liking. A low scoring match though could lead to a tight game which brings another bet into play.

Coventry City are unbeaten in their last eight home matches in all competitions and when you consider that Leeds United have only won three of their last 11 away from home the double chance on the side of the home team looks a fair bet here. While they have kept clean sheets in their last four matches, I still think this Leeds defence is vulnerable when a team goes at it and you would expect Coventry to do that on home soil. The Whites just don’t look as impressive away from Elland Road as evidenced by recent draws at Hull, Preston and Bristol City and losses at the likes of Millwall. I’ll take the Sky Blues to avoid defeat here.
