Big Matches
The main TV cameras are on their way to the Stadium of Light on Saturday afternoon as Sunderland go up against their local rivals Middlesbrough for what should be a competitive match. The other two early matches in front of the cameras in the UK see Norwich City playing Watford at Carrow Road while two London sides meet at Loftus Road as QPR play host to Millwall. West Bromwich Albion are the early pacesetters in the division and they’ll look to maintain their spot at the summit when they welcome Plymouth Argyle to The Hawthorns.
Best of the Rest
Burnley moved their way up to fourth spot in the table when they won at Elland Road last weekend and they now host Portsmouth at a Turf Moor where the Clarets have an excellent recent record in the second tier. Sheffield United are the other members of the top six on show on Saturday. They welcome Derby County to Bramall Lane. At the other end of the table Cardiff City will look for their first win of the campaign when they welcome Leeds United for what is usually a feisty encounter. The two sides immediately above the drop zone meet at Kenilworth Road where Luton Town host Sheffield Wednesday while Liam Manning faces his former club for the first time when his Bristol City side host Oxford United.
Betting
I’m going to stick to what I know when it comes to the Championship on Saturday afternoon and that is take Luton Town to pick up their first home win. It has been a slow start for the Hatters this season but manager Rob Edwards made it quite clear that was going to be the case given that his side had some players out injured who needed to return and in that regard the international break was always going to come at a good time.
Although Luton only picked up their first win last time out, they dominated QPR for the first hour and were all over Portsmouth before their keeper got sent off earlier in the season so things haven’t been as bad as the results suggest for Town. Wednesday started the season in incredible fashion, thrashing Plymouth 4-0 in their opening match but Argyle were so bad that day it was untrue and since then the Owls are winless, picking up just a solitary point last time out against QPR and even that will have felt like a defeat after taking the lead in injury time but not seeing it through. These two sides look like they are heading in different directions so the shade under even money on the home side feels big here.
