Sky Bet Championship 2024-25 – Saturday 8th March Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The Sky Bet Championship weekend continues on Saturday afternoon when all but two of the latest round of matches are played out on another day where events at the top and the bottom of the table will be in focus.

Usually we would have three TV matches on a Saturday but there are only two for us to enjoy this week which probably makes following them a little easier. The other games come along at the normal time and have all of the usual updates.

Coventry City vs Stoke City (12.30pm – Sky Main Event & Sky Football)

Watford vs Millwall (12.30pm – Sky Sports+)

Plymouth Argyle vs Sheffield Wednesday

Big Matches

The main TV cameras head to the CBS Arena on Saturday lunchtime to see if Coventry City can continue their march towards the play-offs under Frank Lampard when former boss Mark Robins returns for the first time since he was sacked when he takes his new side Stoke City to his former stomping ground. The other TV game sees two of the London teams going at it at Vicarage Road where Watford will look to keep their play-off hopes alive when they entertain a Millwall team who haven’t had a great week so far.

Best of the Rest

The leaders Leeds United are not in action until Sunday so Sheffield United have the chance to close the gap at the top and move level with them for 24 hours at least when they host Preston North End at Bramall Lane. Burnley will be hoping that the Blades slip up and if they do then they could move into second spot if they can find a win against relegation threatened Luton Town at Turf Moor. Sunderland are hoping for teams above them to fold over the final quarter of the season but they need to stay close enough if that is to happen and in that regard their match at the Stadium of Light against Cardiff City is a must win one. Tensions might be high at Pride Park too where John Eustace and his Derby County side host the team he left last month in Blackburn Rovers. West Bromwich Albion are the team everyone is chasing for the play-offs and they will look to keep the rest at bay when they host Queens Park Rangers.

Betting

West Bromwich Albion are beginning to look good under Tony Mowbray and it is impossible not to have noticed how well his side played away to Leeds United last weekend and a repeat of that surely will be good enough to get the better of QPR at The Hawthorns. QPR are a bit of a weird case. They are nursing quite a few injuries at the minute and as a result of that they have lost six of their last eight, including their last three on the road and they look susceptible to the Baggies here.

The results might not completely confirm it but there is no doubt that West Brom are better under Tony Mowbray from a going at teams point of view. They were very cautious and safety first under Carlos Corberan, which was his style, but they are already more expansive and ready to go for teams under Mowbray and you would imagine they are favourites to finish in the top six as a result of that. The Baggies have won three of their last four at home and have scored multiple goals in those games and if they do that again here they should have too much for a QPR side who are beginning to look like a team who knows their season is going nowhere.

Tips

Back West Brom to beat QPR for a 3/10 stake at 1.75 with William Hill
