As is often the case whenever we get to March there are matches in the Sky Bet Championship that need to be caught up for various reasons and four of those will take place on an intriguing night of action on Tuesday evening.
Three of the four matches will be live to watch on the TV streaming service that has been put in operation for this league this season and there will be updates on the other one in all of the usual places so we can keep up with everything easily enough.
Tuesday’s fixtures are as follows: (All 7.45pm; Sky Sports+ unless stated)
Cardiff City vs Burnley
Hull City vs Plymouth Argyle
Millwall vs Bristol City (No TV coverage)
Preston North End vs Swansea City

There are two big matches which will determine events at either end of the table. Burnley will look to close to within two points of the automatic promotion spots when they travel into Wales to face a Cardiff City side who have seen their gap to the bottom three reduce over the weekend and will be looking to move further clear of it. There is a massive match at the bottom of the table when Hull City, now just two points from safety, host a Plymouth Argyle side who will move level on points with the Tigers should they come out on top.
The other game which has TV coverage on Tuesday evening takes us to Deepdale where Preston North End will look to continue their home form and keep their feint hopes of gatecrashing the top six alive when they welcome Swansea City to that part of Lancashire. The other match comes from The New Den where Millwall will look to put their FA Cup exit behind them when they host a Bristol City outfit who will move level on points with sixth placed West Brom should they come out on top in the game.
Betting
Preston North End have won their last three home meetings with Swansea City and when you consider how strong they have been at home this season and how poor the Swans have been away it wouldn’t be a surprise were that run to continue. The obvious negative here is that Preston played in the FA Cup at the weekend but they should be buoyed by winning the game and they were in control of it from a relatively early stage so it shouldn’t have taken too much out of them.
Swansea have a wretched away record in recent times. They have lost 10 of their 17 away matches this season including five of their last six and that includes losses at places like Stoke, Cardiff and Portsmouth. They got a bounce after the sacking of Luke Williams but whether that can be replicated away remains to be seen. Preston are now unbeaten in 13 in all competitions at home dating back to early November and don’t concede many goals there. Swansea only have 13 goals in their 17 away games this term so with some draw cover to protect half of our stake should Saturday still be in the Preston legs, I like the home side here.
