The midweek action in the Sky Bet Championship concludes on Wednesday evening when the eight teams who weren’t on show on Tuesday take to the pitch to look for three more points in their respective quests in this campaign.
As with Tuesday, all four of the matches are live on the TV for us to enjoy, although once again you’ll need more than one device to watch all of them as they kick off at roughly the same time. The attention is on the top and the bottom on Wednesday.
Wednesday’s fixtures are as follows: (7.45pm and Sky Sports+ unless stated)
Leeds United vs Norwich City
Portsmouth vs Stoke City
Sheffield Wednesday vs Bristol City
Plymouth Argyle vs Burnley (8pm – Sky Main Event & Sky Football)

The main TV cameras head to Home Park on Wednesday evening for the clash between rock bottom Plymouth Argyle and promotion chasing Burnley. The teams above Plymouth aren’t going anywhere but it won’t matters if the Pilgrims don’t start picking up points. Burnley dropped down to fourth in the table on Tuesday night and will be looking for a result which would move them back into the top three here. At the bottom end of the table, Portsmouth will be looking to come out of the bottom three as well when they play host to a Stoke City side who are equally in a fair bit of trouble just two points above the drop zone.
Leeds United were placed at the summit on Tuesday night but they have the chance to make it back into the top spot when they welcome Norwich City to Elland Road in what is probably the marquee or heavyweight clash of the night. The other game has the focus on the battle for the playoffs when Sheffield Wednesday will look to put some off field issues behind them when they host a Bristol City side who are marching towards the top six after a decent Christmas period.
Betting
Portsmouth have come alive on home soil recently and there is nothing to suggest that they can’t pick up another three points when they welcome Stoke City to Fratton Park on Wednesday evening. Pompey have won five of their last six on home soil and drew the other one in that run so while things aren’t clicking away from home for the League 1 champions of last season they have got up to speed at home quite nicely.
Stoke are going to be a work in progress under Mark Robins but the big issue he needs to fix is a lack of goals. Away from home overall this season, the Potters are 2-4-7 but they have scored just seven goals in those 13 matches and in their last six games anywhere in the Championship they have scored just twice and in that time Tom Cannon has been recalled by Leicester City. Stoke go into the match with just one win in their last 13 and while Robins will turn them around at some point, it might need reinforcements before that comes. Portsmouth look a solid bet with some draw cover here.
