Skybet League 2 – Accrington Stanley vs Cambridge United Betting Preview

Two sides are a game behind the rest in Skybet League 2 but that changes on Tuesday evening when Accrington Stanley host Cambridge in what looks like a nothing match but could yet yield an interesting end to the campaign for the winners who will move to within striking distance of the playoffs.

Accrington Stanley

After a horrible start to the season full credit must go to everyone at the ridiculously named Wham Stadium for the turnaround in their fortunes. Their start to the season can probably be attributed to a couple of things. Teams who lose in the playoffs often suffer a hangover the following season especially when the defeat is heart-breaking.

The other reason why their season started slowly was some high profile departures in the summer and while they knew a couple of them were happening a club the size of Accrington were never going to be able to replace them straight away. A run now of one defeat in 13 suggests this is closer to last season’s Accrington than the one which began the campaign was.

Cambridge United

I took on Cambridge at the weekend but full credit to them for holding arguably the form side in the league in Stevenage. That continued an upwards curve for the Us even though consistency has been a concern for a long time for them. At their best they have shown they can be very good but I’ve twice seen them closer to their worst which is a concern to me.

After a run of four defeats on the spin at the end of January into last month, Cambridge have now lost just two of their last nine matches and they were both at home, one of which was to the leaders Doncaster. On the road Cambridge have won their last three and haven’t conceded in any of them so maybe a successful plan on their travels has been found.

Betting

I’ve looked at this from a few angles but whichever one I approach it from I don’t see much in the way of value anywhere. If you put a gun to my head and forced me into a pick I would probably side with Accrington but I wouldn’t be doing it with any certainty so it might be that the best way to play this game is to leave it alone and concentrate on the last five weeks of the season rather than chance something I’m not overly keen on.
