There is one more match in Skybet League 2 this weekend and it comes from Meadow Lane as Notts County host Barnet in a match between two sides who are likely to be safe from the drop although the home side could just do with another couple of wins to be sure.
Notts County
It had the hallmarks of being a wretched season for the Magpies when they were struggling before Christmas but a takeover and then a manager change seems to have done the trick because County have climbed to something bordering on safety and they’re in good enough form to pull further clear of the bottom two as well.
Notts County have only lost two of their last eight matches and they were on the road to two form sides in Doncaster and Stevenage, both of whom could end up in the top three come the end of the season so there is no disgrace in that. Nolan has been given the tools to sign players like Shola Ameobi and the side have lifted from it.
Barnet
Notts County aren’t the only side to have changed manager this season. Barnet have done it as well although theirs was forced on them when Martin Allen went to Eastleigh. It took them a while to land their man but finally they got Kevin Nugent on board but he hasn’t had an immediate impact in charge you would have to say.
Barnet have won just one of their last 12 matches and that came at a Morecambe side who are largely average on their own patch so I’m not even sure they can call that a great result in the grand scheme of things. They were denied a win against Yeovil in injury time in midweek so it would be no surprise were confidence to be on the low side.
Team News
Jon Stead has missed the last couple of matches for Notts County but he could be involved in this one. Shola Ameobi came off the bench against Doncaster in midweek and could be given a starting spot here.
Barnet have plenty of injuries to contend with which isn’t ideal when they have had 24hrs less to recover for this one. Jamie Stephens, Michael Gash, Shaun Batt and James Pearson are all unavailable.
Betting
I like Notts County in this match. They’re in decent form and I’m not going to worry about a defeat to Doncaster in midweek. They look to have the more options should they want to change things after a heavy recent workload and Barnet head to Nottingham low on confidence.
I’m really surprised we can get a level ball as big as 17/20 here. I think the home side deserve a bit more respect than that on current form so I’m happy to take that especially when they’ve had an extra 24hrs to recover from midweek.
