Skybet League 2 Play-off Final – Blackpool vs Exeter City Betting Preview

The final match of the League 2 season will determine who the last team to take their place in League 1 next year will be. We know it will be either Blackpool or Exeter City who meet in the play-off final at Wembley on Sunday but we won’t know who until after they’ve played.

Blackpool will be looking to make it back to the third tier at the first time of asking while Exeter will be looking for a much sought after promotion after so long trying overall so this will mean much to both sides.

Blackpool

In many ways the Tangerines are in a strange situation. The club would love to get promoted but there will be hardly any Blackpool fans in the stadium with those who stayed away hoping they lose to force their owners out. That will be a tricky thing to deal with in the final although it did them no harm in the semi-final.

In that semi-final they went through all the emotions possible in their two-legged win over Luton. Twice they were behind in the tie looking dead and buried and twice they found something to get their way back into the tie eventually securing their place at Wembley courtesy of a Luton own goal in the final minute.

Exeter City

It has been a weird season for Exeter too it has to be said. Their start to the campaign was so bad that the Supporters Trust who own the club made the strange decision to tell Paul Tisdale his contract wouldn’t be getting renewed even though he had two years left on it. They finish the season with a trip to Wembley.

One of the reasons for their successful second half of the season has been the form of their front men and quite rightly they have received plenty of plaudits. Exeter have always been a lovely football team to watch and now they have an end product they are really making strides in the division.

Team News

Blackpool boss Gary Bowyer is said to have a full strength squad to choose from for this match which means that Kyle Vassell must have recovered from the injury which kept him out of the second leg win against Luton.

Exeter boss Paul Tisdale is expected to name an unchanged side to the one which dramatically beat Carlisle at St James’ Park 10 days ago as he seeks promotion.

Betting

Going into the play-offs it was my belief that the winner of the Luton vs Blackpool tie would get promoted and while I still think that I can’t quite bring myself to put money on it. That might just be that I see a much better bet though so I wouldn’t put anyone off Blackpool in this match.

The better bet looks to be over 2.5 goals which is crazily priced at 17/20. All four semi-final matches contained at least five goals and I don’t think we’ve seen the end of the goals yet. Both sides have their strengths in forward areas and both look to get it down and get on the front foot so I don’t really see how we get a low scoring match here.

There is a lot at stake but I don’t think that will negate the scoring in any way. If anything it could enhance it so I’m all over that over 2.5 goals.
