Once again we have a full schedule in League 2 on Saturday and all 24 clubs will have been pleased to have enjoyed midweek break, in some cases for the first time this season, so we should be seeing some refreshed sides ready to crack on with their league campaigns.
Saturday fixtures are as follows:
Carlisle vs Leyton Orient
Colchester vs Blackpool
Crewe vs Exeter
Luton vs Grimsby
Mansfield vs Barnet
Morecambe vs Doncaster
Newport vs Cheltenham
Notts County vs Accrington
Plymouth vs Cambridge
Portsmouth vs Wycombe
Stevenage vs Crawley
Yeovil vs Hartlepool
Big Matches
The leaders Luton welcome Grimsby to Kenilworth Road on Saturday while second placed Morecambe host Doncaster in what is the match of the day as far as league placings are concerned. Plymouth sit in third despite a poor start to the season and they host bottom placed Cambridge while Portsmouth welcome Wycombe to Fratton Park.
Best of the Rest
Stevenage host Crawley in a mid-table clash at the Lamex Stadium while Yeovil and Hartlepool meet in a lower end game at Huish Park. Mansfield have been in the news for the wrong reasons and they will look to get there for the right ones when they entertain a hit or miss Barnet side while playoff chasers Colchester and Blackpool and Carlisle and Leyton Orient meet each other.
Betting
There are a couple of bets I like on the card this week. Not for the first time I’m sticking to what I know with one of them and then I’m going to take another between two sides I’ve seen first-hand and up close this season.
My own side Luton host a Grimsby side who are leaking goals like a sieve and that should be a good thing both for my emotional allegiance and our bank accounts and I’m expecting to see some goals here. Luton laid a marker down against Wycombe last week that they are going to take on opponents with a high tempo and plenty of quality and Gareth Ainsworth ended up conceding his side lost to the champions.
Grimsby have shipped two goals or more in every league game apart from their opening one but they are finding the net too. Luton are yet to keep a clean sheet at home at Kenilworth Road this season and if that doesn’t change here then we’ll safely go over 2.5 goals. Even if it does change Luton could still cover this on their own.
I saw Plymouth on the opening day of the season and you could see they needed a few weeks to gel but at the same time you could also see there was some quality in their ranks when they did and that has proven to be the case with them having won their last four matches.
Cambridge looked ordinary when I saw them a couple of weeks ago and I was amazed by how quickly they threw the towel in when they conceded the first goal against Luton a couple of weeks ago. That showed me a side who are low on confidence and while credit must go to them for holding Mansfield last week this is a different thing entirely.
Plymouth are scoring goals and have only conceded one goal in their last four matches and all of that should equate to a home win in this one.
