As we know the League 2 season stops for nobody and all 24 sides in the division are in action on Saturday as the top and the bottom of the table continues to take shape. We’re into the second half of the season now so this is the time for all the sides to be launching strong runs of form.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (3pm unless stated)
Notts County v Mansfield Town 13:00
Barnet v Doncaster Rovers
Cambridge United v Blackpool
Carlisle United v Morecambe
Cheltenham Town v Accrington Stanley
Crawley Town v Hartlepool United
Crewe Alexandra v Luton Town
Grimsby Town v Exeter City
Newport County v Colchester United
Plymouth Argyle v Stevenage
Portsmouth v Leyton Orient
Wycombe Wanderers v Yeovil Town
Big Matches
The leaders Doncaster have a tricky looking match away to Barnet but they know whatever happens they will end the day on top of the table. Plymouth are their nearest challengers and they host Stevenage at Home Park although with Liverpool heading in that direction next the home side might not be totally reliable here.
Carlisle have had a bad spell so they will be hoping they to get back on track when they play host to Morecambe while Portsmouth welcome Leyton Orient to Fratton Park. Both home sides look very short there.
Best of the Rest
Luton head to Crewe looking to find some form of their own while Colchester and Wycombe, the two form sides in the division both face bottom half opposition in Newport and Yeovil respectively. There is a Nottinghamshire derby as Notts County host Mansfield in Kevin Nolan’s first game in charge of the Magpies.
Betting
There are two bets for me in the division this weekend and it is a couple of away sides I like. They won’t surprise anyone because I’ve taken both home sides on regularly over the last few months so while we are still getting draw cover I’m happy to take them on again.
Notts County might have a new manager but Kevin Nolan won’t have had time to turn things around and he didn’t do much for Leyton Orient so I’m not convinced about that. Mansfield are taking near enough the whole town with them to this game so they won’t lack for support and they head down the M1 in decent form too which is important. Things might be starting to look up for Notts County off the field but on it I think they will suffer another defeat here.
In Wales we have the form side in the division in Colchester against the worst side in the form list and indeed the table in Newport. I saw Colchester first hand on Boxing Day and know how tight they can be on the road and that serves them well here as Newport leak goals like a sieve. I’m not convinced they’ll be able to get enough at the other end to compensate for that so this looks a good time to take Newport on again.
