There is another round of League 2 matches on Saturday with things beginning to get very important now. We head into the final quarter of the season over the next week or so which means that time is starting to run out for those pushing to achieve things who aren’t yet in a position to do so.
Saturday’s matches are as follows:
Barnet v Cambridge United
Carlisle United v Portsmouth
Colchester United v Hartlepool United
Crewe Alexandra v Stevenage
Doncaster Rovers v Accrington Stanley
Exeter City v Blackpool
Leyton Orient v Cheltenham Town
Luton Town v Plymouth Argyle
Mansfield Town v Newport County
Morecambe v Grimsby Town
Notts County v Yeovil Town
Wycombe Wanderers v Crawley Town
Big Matches
For the second time in a week Luton Town are involved in the match of the day when they host second placed Plymouth at Kenilworth Road. There is an equally as big clash at Brunton Park where Carlisle Utd in third place host fifth placed Portsmouth who you would think have to win or avoid defeat at least to keep their automatic promotion hopes realistic. Leaders Doncaster host resurgent Accrington.
Best of the Rest
Exeter will look to maintain their automatic promotion chances when they welcome Blackpool to Devon while Colchester look to have a good chance to keep the playoff chasing pack at bay when they host Hartlepool. At the other end of the table Newport head to Mansfield looking for three big points while two of the three sides immediately above them clash in London when Leyton Orient host Cheltenham.
Betting
This division hasn’t been too kind to me in recent weeks so I’m going to tread a little more carefully until I get some confidence back in it again but 11 days ago I saw arguably the worst side I’ve ever seen at this level when Hartlepool went to Kenilworth Road and I have had the intention to take them on since and now looks a good time to do that.
They make the lengthy journey to Colchester on Saturday. Colchester returned to winning ways in midweek when they overcame Wycombe and with sides breathing down their necks for the final playoff spot they need to keep on winning.
Hartlepool have only picked up two points in their last ten away matches and that doesn’t surprise me based on what I saw at Kenilworth Road that night a short while ago. Colchester are nothing special at this level but they appear better than many and I expect them to pick up a much needed win here.
