The first weekend in February sees all 24 sides in League 2 scheduled to play for the first time in a while as 12 more fixtures take place in the division. The race for automatic promotion and the chase for the playoffs are all beginning to bunch up while things are getting tight at the bottom of the table too so everything is set up for an important day of action.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows:
Accrington Stanley v Notts County
Barnet v Mansfield Town
Blackpool v Colchester United
Cambridge United v Plymouth Argyle
Cheltenham Town v Newport County
Crawley Town v Stevenage
Doncaster Rovers v Morecambe
Exeter City v Crewe Alexandra
Grimsby Town v Luton Town
Hartlepool United v Yeovil Town
Leyton Orient v Carlisle United
Wycombe Wanderers v Portsmouth
Big Matches
Although the top three are all in action on Saturday the big match of the day comes from Adams Park as seventh host sixth as Wycombe take on Portsmouth. The leaders Doncaster will be looking to extend their lead at the top when they host Morecambe at the Keepmoat while Plymouth will be looking to stay on top of the chase when they go to Cambridge. Carlisle look to get their season back on track when they head to the capital to take on a slumping Leyton Orient.
Best of the Rest
Exeter have flown up to fourth spot and could close in further on automatic promotion when they host Crewe while Luton will be looking to make up for midweek disappointment when they are the first visitors to Blundell Park since the departure of Omar Bogle for Grimsby. At the other end of the table tensions will run high as Cheltenham host Newport while Accrington face Notts County in a huge six pointer.
Betting
This isn’t usually a round of matches I go mad in. We’ve had a massive turnover in almost all of the squads on what was a pretty crazy transfer deadline day so I’m going to ease off the throttle a little bit and assess things before getting stuck in again later in the month.
There is one bet I’m going to take though and that involves the form team Exeter who are showing no signs of slowing down at the minute. They have won eight of their last nine matches and now take on a Crewe side who are winless in ten and showing no sign of improvement.
Of those eight recent Exeter wins seven of them have been by more than the odd goal and I’m expecting them to dominate this one just as strongly. I’ll take them to cover a -1 handicap safe in the knowledge that any Exeter win guarantees at least a refund.
