Skybet League 2 – Saturday 7th January Matches Betting Preview

With many League 2 teams still involved in the FA Cup there is a truncated fixture list in the division on Saturday. There are just six fixtures in all with the 12 sides in action all looking for three valuable points to boost their own positions and put pressure on those around them when they come to play their game in hand.

Saturday’s fixtures are as follows:

Colchester United v Carlisle United

Hartlepool United v Grimsby Town

Leyton Orient v Barnet

Mansfield Town v Crewe Alexandra

Morecambe v Notts County

Stevenage v Newport County

Big Matches

Third placed Carlisle look to move into second and close the gap on the leaders Doncaster when they head to a Colchester side who have won their last four and who will move up to sixth should they win. Barnet are another side who will move into the playoffs should they win at Leyton Orient. Grimsby head to Hartlepool.

Best of the Rest

There is a clash between two strugglers at the Globe Arena as Morecambe host a Notts County side who are in as wretched a run as they’ve ever been on. Graham Westley is back at Stevenage on Saturday when he takes his Morecambe side there and the other game sees Mansfield hosting a fast fading Crewe.

Betting

This isn’t the easiest fixture list to solve. I like taking on Notts County and Newport County in recent times but both play sides who are either useless completely in the case of Morecambe or awful at home in the case of Stevenage so this might be the right time to leave them both alone. Barnet tempt me at Leyton Orient but I don’t like getting involved in local clashes without good reason.

In the end I’m going with just the one bet and it comes on a Grimsby side who have already won at Plymouth, Carlisle and Luton this season so they are not shabby on their travels. They now go to Hartlepool who have won just one of their last six and who are struggling. A long term injury to their goalkeeper doesn’t help them.

One of the reasons why Grimsby are so good on the road is they have a genuine goal threat in Omar Bogle. He, along with his teammates, can see off a Hartlepool who are always far too open for my liking.

Tips

WON – Back Grimsby (0AH) to beat Hartlepool for a 4/10 stake at 1.83 with BetVictor
