Skybet League 2 – Tuesday 14th February Matches Betting Preview

The punishing League 2 schedule continues on Tuesday night when there is another set of fixtures in the division. We reach two thirds of the campaign after this set of games and the run in to the end of the season really begins in earnest so all the sides in action will be looking for a positive result to launch their charge.

Tuesday’s fixtures are as follows:

Carlisle United v Doncaster Rovers

Colchester United v Crawley Town

Crewe Alexandra v Wycombe Wanderers

Luton Town v Hartlepool United

Mansfield Town v Accrington Stanley

Morecambe v Barnet

Newport County v Grimsby Town

Notts County v Exeter City

Plymouth Argyle v Leyton Orient

Portsmouth v Blackpool

Stevenage v Cheltenham Town

Yeovil Town v Cambridge United

Big Matches

There is no doubt what the biggest match of the night is. It comes from Brunton Park as the leaders Doncaster Rovers head to third place Carlisle United. Plymouth Argyle will go level on points with Doncaster should the leaders lose and Argyle beat Leyton Orient while fourth placed Luton would overtake Carlisle should the Cumbrians lose and Luton beat Hartlepool at Kenilworth Road.

Best of the Rest

There is a big match at both ends of the table at Meadow Lane when Notts County host Exeter while two sides too big for this division battle it out at Fratton Park when Portsmouth entertain Blackpool. Mansfield will look to continue their recent charge when they welcome Accrington to the One Call with Wycombe and Colchester sniffing that last playoff spot.

Betting

I like three home sides in this set of matches. Generally when there is a midweek fixture list in this division the bigger and better squads come to the fore and I certainly expect that to be the case here with most of the sides who travelled on Saturday being asked to do the same thing again which is never easy.

The first home side I like are Mansfield. They head into their match with Accrington without a defeat in their last eight matches and in fact they have only conceded a goal in one of their last seven which in this division takes some doing. They’ve won their last three at home without conceding. Accrington in contrast are the joint worst side in the league on their travels and their two wins in their last ten have come against poor and out of form opposition in Crewe and Notts County. Everything points to a home win for me there.

It is a massive night for Plymouth. One of the sides either side of them is going to slip up if not both so their match against Leyton Orient is huge for them. Let’s be honest Orient have packed it in. Their owner is a shambles and the players on the pitch is resembling that. Orient now have just two points from their last eight matches. Plymouth are unbeaten in five at home and they are finding plenty of goals there now too. I’m expecting them to score a few more here and run out comfortable winners.

Crawley have won just one of their last 11 away games and even that was at an average Crewe so the last thing they need is to go to a Colchester side who have only lost one of their last 12 which was away at a rampant Exeter so even that can be excused. I saw Crawley on Saturday and while they popped it about ok they didn’t look anything special and I would expect a Colchester side, who have won their last five at home, to have too much for them in this one.
