The end of the Skybet League 2 season is in sight and most of the division will enter singles figures for matches to go on Tuesday night when all but two of the 24 sides are in action. Every point counts at this stage of the campaign so we are sure to get some extremely competitive football in the 11 matches on the night.
Tuesday’s matches are as follows:
Accrington Stanley v Leyton Orient
Blackpool v Stevenage
Cambridge United v Hartlepool United
Carlisle United v Luton Town
Colchester United v Mansfield Town
Crawley Town v Crewe Alexandra
Doncaster Rovers v Notts County
Exeter City v Cheltenham Town
Morecambe v Newport County
Portsmouth v Grimsby Town
Wycombe Wanderers v Plymouth Argyle
Big Matches
The leaders Doncaster could go 17pts clear of fourth placed Stevenage if they can beat Notts County at the Keepmoat Stadium. Second placed Plymouth will be looking to build on Saturday’s win and enhance their own promotion hopes when they head to Wycombe while Portsmouth will be looking to consolidate third place when Grimsby head to Fratton Park. The biggest match of the day comes from Brunton Park where Carlisle host Luton.
Best of the Rest
Two sides pushing hard for promotion meet at Bloomfield Road when Blackpool host a Stevenage side who are absolutely flying at the minute. Stevenage could move to within a point of third with a win. At the other end of the table there is a huge clash between Accrington Stanley and Leyton Orient with the visitors in must win territory.
Betting
Two away sides catch my fancy here both of whom are pushing hard for promotion. Plymouth are infinitely better on the road than at home at the minute and they have none of those ridiculous issues Derek Adams spoke about last week on their travels. They head to a Wycombe side who might have gone a couple of matches unbeaten but only Blackpool will know how they didn’t win there on Saturday.
Despite all their problems at home Plymouth are four unbeaten on the road and with Wycombe only having one win in their last eight matches I don’t think Argyle will be beaten. There is a bit of bad blood between these two which should fire Plymouth up and I like them as the outsiders there.
A few weeks ago I would have been surprised to see Luton as the favourites at Carlisle but Carlisle have completely fallen apart in the last month. They have lost their last four matches and haven’t scored in any of them which clearly highlights that they have issues. Luton may have lost on Saturday but they were in good form before that and losing to Stevenage isn’t the worst result out there.
Similar to Plymouth, Luton are much better on the road and I fancy they will bounce back from Saturday’s disappointment. I was at a Q&A with Luton boss Nathan Jones last week and he was adamant that the top three was the sole goal now. For that to be a realistic possibility Luton must win this. I think they can and I think they will.
