Skybet League Two – Saturday 9th January Betting Preview

Due to the FA Cup this weekend’s League Two fixture list is a truncated one with just four matches in the fourth tier of the English game being played out on Saturday but just because the matches are few and far between doesn’t mean there is no betting potential.

The four matches left to play on Saturday sees Accrington hosting Notts County, Barnet welcome Bristol Rovers at The Hive, Cambridge go to Crawley and Mansfield look to get back to form when they host Teddy Sheringham and his Stevenage side.

Usually I would run for the hills when I see Accrington at odds on but I have to admit I’m really tempted to back them this week. I’m no fan of Notts County on the road and the fact they haven’t got a new manager in yet suggests not much may change.

Unfortunately for me when I considered backing the home side news broke that Josh Windass and Matt Crooks signed pre-contracts with Rangers and I’d need to see how the two go before I can put my hard earned on Stanley particularly when they are odds on. Reluctantly I’ll just leave the game alone.

I was thinking of chancing Bristol Rovers having seen them with my own eyes last week but you have to respect Barnet at home and it isn’t ideal that since they beat Luton that Rovers’ scorer of both goals in that win Rory Gaffney has gone back to his parent club Cambridge so there is just about enough to swerve the Gas men there.

I’m not getting involved in the Mansfield vs Stevenage match. I don’t rate Mansfield much but Stevenage’s form has dropped over the Christmas period and until it returns they are a no bet side which leaves me with just the one match.

That is the Crawley vs Cambridge match, a match where although they cost me last week I’m going to chance the visitors again.

Cambridge were well beaten by AFC Wimbledon last week but I suspect that was a bit of a fluke and they have the ideal bounce back opportunity when they head to injury ravaged Crawley.

Crawley are nothing special but when you factor in the number of players they are missing, and Jimmy Smith and Josh Yorwerth have been added to the injured list, clearly that isn’t ideal. If that isn’t enough they have lost four loanees back to their parent clubs so things are getting a bit tight in terms of personnel for Mark Yates.

With that in mind and the fact you can get even money with some draw cover on the Asian lines I’ll go with Cambridge again in the hope and belief that last week was just one of this days where it all went wrong for them and the revert to their good form here.
