Specsavers County Championship – Tuesday 6th September Matches Betting Preview

The race for the County Championship is really heating up and it isn’t just in the top division where things are getting interesting. With three weeks of the season left we are set for a fascinating finale and we will go closer to finding out the destiny of both titles this week when another round of matches begin on Tuesday.

Division One

We’re back to 10.30am starts now we are in September and we have a bottom vs top clash at Trent Bridge as the leaders Middlesex face relegation threatened Nottinghamshire. Somerset host Warwickshire down at Taunton while Surrey welcome Hampshire to The Oval. Title chasing Yorkshire host Durham at Headingley in the other match.

There isn’t a lot of value around in this set of matches with many top vs bottom clashes. The only match from a betting point of view which has competitive prices is the one at Taunton where I would marginally favour Somerset to win but I’m reluctant to take on Warwickshire so I’m going to leave this division alone.

Division Two

There are just the three matches in the second division this week. Kent look to close in on the leaders Essex who don’t play this week when they host Northamptonshire at Beckenham. Leicestershire welcome Sussex to Grace Road and Glamorgan host Gloucestershire at the Swalec.

This is a big week for Kent but although they should win I’m not sure I can take them at their skinny odds. They have plenty of pressure on their shoulders this week and they will be without Sam Billings which isn’t ideal. Although Northamptonshire have nothing to play for they are dangerous enough to avoid taking on.

I nearly took Leicestershire to beat a Sussex side who are still beaten up with injuries but everything is a bit up in the air at Leicester at the minute with Andrew McDonald leaving and all the chopping and changing that is going to bring. With that in mind I’ll leave that too.

I can’t ignore Gloucestershire though. They might have faded in the last couple of weeks but they have the chance to pick up another win when they head to Cardiff to take on a Glamorgan side who have offered little in this competition and who were outscored in total by Ben Duckett alone last week.

Gloucestershire have the bowling to limit Glamorgan and the batsmen of their own, even without Michael Klinger, to take advantage of that. 4/5 is a perfectly acceptable price given the respective efforts of the two sides this season.
