Specsavers County Championship – Wednesday 3rd August Matches Betting Preview

With the group stages of both one day competitions over and done with it is time for the County Championship run in to begin and that begins with a couple of matches from the second division which start out on Wednesday.

Glamorgan host Northamptonshire in a dead rubber with both sides going absolutely nowhere this season while the other game is big at the top end of the table as Kent host Worcestershire in a battle of fifth against second.

Glamorgan vs Northamptonshire

Two of the bottom three meet in this match but I have to say there is nothing remotely inspirational about it from a betting point of view. Northants are resting the majority of their batting line up ahead of their two quarter finals to come while Glamorgan have nosedived in recent matches and while they have been in one day cricket form can linger.

All things being equal I would expect Glamorgan to come away with the win here but I’m no backer of sides like them at 4/5 so I will give this match a complete miss without spending too much time dwelling on it.

Kent vs Worcestershire

It is all at stake here. Kent might be fifth going into the round of matches but they are only 13pts off top spot and they can win the title from there. Worcestershire are six points better off in second place and look in a wonderful position from which to strike down the run for home.

Kent are doing excellently in the 50 over competition but their four day cricket has been hampered by injury and sudden England call ups. With them having played a match more I just wonder if they will give this competition their all or if they will put all their success this season in the 50 over basket. The bowling would be a big concern here.

Worcestershire look real dangers to Essex for the title to me especially now Tom Fell is fit and well and more importantly scoring big runs once again. He and Joe Clarke in the middle order are up there with the best young duo touring the country right now and we know they have real quality in their bowling attack. Joe Leach is the second highest wicket taker in the division and Kyle Abbott is real quality. The attack is so strong there is no place for Jack Shantry.

I like both these sides but I like Kent slightly more in the one day environment and I think the better class of Worcestershire could come through here. The other reason I like the Pears is because they had Tuesday off while Kent were grafting hard to make it through to the quarter final of the Royal London One Day Cup in Hove. That might make them a bit jaded here and Worcestershire are in excellent form and in the right position to take advantage.
