Super Bowl LV – Kansas City Chiefs @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tips and Betting Preview

The NFL season comes to a close on Sunday night when Super Bowl LV takes place and for the first time in the history of the modern era we will have a team playing on their home field in the clash which is dubbed ‘The Greatest Show on Turf’.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be on home soil when they look to deny the Kansas City Chiefs successive Super Bowl crowns in what should be a superb contest between two of the best exponents of the quarterback position battling it out.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Given that they have been on the road in all three playoff matches to date, there is a certain irony that as comfortably the lower seed of the two sides here, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have home field advantage in this match. In truth the Bucs haven’t really been tested in this postseason campaign and that will give them an awful lot of confidence because in New Orleans Saints and Green Bay Packers they have seen off a couple of offensive powerhouses.

That will stand them in good stead here because they are up against the best of the lot in that regard here. The two keys to Tampa Bay success in this match will be how well they can protect Tom Brady, which if they are good at that will give him the time to pick apart this Chiefs defence, and whether the Bucs pass rush can get anything at all on Patrick Mahomes and potentially rush him into wayward passes if they can’t get him over.

Kansas City Chiefs

It has largely been smooth going for the Kansas City Chiefs in their two playoff matches. They eased passed the Cleveland Browns despite an injury to Mahomes along the way and they always seemed to have the Buffalo Bills where they wanted them. They now leave the Arrowhead Stadium but they do so knowing that they are an even better side than the one which came from double digits down to the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl last season.

We know all about the Chiefs offensively but in this playoff series their defence has made enough big plays to take the heat off of that offense. The more plays they can make in this Super Bowl the better their chances of winning will be. It will benefit them massively if they can get pressure on Tom Brady as if he gets put off his game then the match will be in the hands of the Chiefs and their brilliant offense.

Betting

I’m hoping for a great Super Bowl between two pretty decent offensive teams, better than decent actually, and with both quarterbacks knowing how to perform at the big dance this should be something quite special. I think the Kansas City Chiefs will win the match but by which margin I’m not really sure. Instead of pushing handicaps and spreads and getting gubbed by a point or so I’ll take a bet which should be effectively the same as the Kansas City Chiefs winning.

That is Patrick Mahomes to be the MVP. The top notch quarterback didn’t have his best match in the Super Bowl last season, throwing a couple of picks as well as a couple of touchdowns but only passing for 286 yards with a quarterback rating of 78.1. That was still good enough for him to be named the MVP even though Tyreek Hill had 100 yards and Damien Williams rushing beyond that total. I don’t think Kansas City can win this if Mahomes doesn’t play a close to perfect game so if last year was good enough to land the MVP, a Chiefs win here should see their quarterback extend the run of eight of the last 11 winning quarterbacks to be crowned the MVP in the big match.
